I have been thinking about this, and hope someone is able to answer me. Whenever I remember a dream, it always seems as if I wake up from that dream. I was wondering - it isn’t possible to only remember a dream if you wake up while having one, right? I have heard of people remembering more than one dream a night, so why is it that I only remember the last one, and only when I wake up while having it? Is it that time just passes very quickly while I’m not dreaming, so I just feel as if I wake up from the dream? Anybody who knows?
IMO it is just that when you wake up directly from a dream, you don’t need to make any effort to bring back the dream memory - it is all immediately there.
So to enable yourself to remember your other dreams, you will need to work on recapturing those elusive memories
Have you read the big remembering dreams topic in this sub forum?
Yeah, a little. But what if one have an LD in the middle of the night? How would that dream end? I’ve recently started keeping a dream diary, so I hope I’ll be able to remember more dreams as well.
So far, after all my LDs I either wake up right away or I have a FA after it.
But LDs are easier to remember since we are more aware while dreaming. BUT I have read posts where dreamers know they had a LD but can’t remember what they did in it or it’s hazy due to the fact that they haven’t strengthened their ND dream recall.
Well, I guess I just have to practise, so I can experience it myself. Thank you for your replies, moogle.
Dreams are fragile memories, Waking up is like throwing fabrege eggs at a wall, most of them will break upon impact. Of course the key is to not get up after waking up so the dreams will remain fresh in the mind but I find if I lay to long trying to remember every detail I’ll lose it so I get up, but make sure you don’t get up too fast.
Does writing down your dream count as “getting up”? If so, I am getting up too fast…
in my case … I lie still for 5 minutes or more, consolidating all the dream memories, then without getting out of bed, I scribble everything down in a notebook.
But if you jump out of bed to write things down before you have the memories ‘safe’ chances are they will just disappear
Hmm… Well, I usually start writing at once, while still in bed. I use key words, then add more as the dream comes to me. When I have no more to add, I write it all down. I think I’ll try your method of lying for a while when I get the chance.
I have to get up at 6:00 am from an alarm 5 out of 7 days a week. It is really hard to remember my dreams. Whenever I wake up from an alarm, usually, I only remember fragments and little parts of a dream(s).
This happened to me just two nights ago. I was just in the middle of a sentence in my dream and my alarm woke me up. I swear I thought I was going to continue that sentence when I woke up. It was a weird good feeling.
