Warning:Do not attempt to lucid dream if your delusional?

Why is it not recommended that a person who cant tell whats real or not should not attempt to have LD’s can someone really end up like Mal in Inception? In every book I’ve read about lucid dreaming it’s been made clear to understand that no one with dissossiative disorder should lucid dream can someone really lose their grasp on reality if they do? I’m asking this because I’ve been trying to have an LD but I’m scared that it will cause me to ‘go crazy’ because I’ve been told to have shown symptoms of mania, delusional, paranoia, alter egos, anxeity and I’ve taken medication for recent panic attacks? I know I have a problem with ‘staying’ in reality that I need to get diagnosed and put on proper medication for.So do you think I should postpone trying to become lucid before that? or is there no hope for anyone with dissossiative disorder to ever lucid dream?

When you’re in a lucid dream, you will do things like jumping from a building to fly, do other risky things and even try things on dream characters. Because it is not real. But if you have problems with knowing what is reality, then you might think you’re in a lucid dream while you’re really awake.

Falling out of your window and stabbing other people because you think you’re dreaming will end up badly . I’m not sure if you can practise this though, I will leave that to the professionals here :content: .

How about instead of telling him the bad things to do, we tell him the good.
If in a dream you save somebody without getting hurt, you might be dillusional enough to be a hero- not a super hero but a hero. Can’t we control the direction of our delusional ways?

No matter what answers you get here, if you show signs of paranoia or similar symptoms you should consult your doctor or psychiatrist before attempting lucid dreaming. It is had to say if lucid dreaming actually causes people to “go crazy,” but in a few cases it does look like it has served as a catalyst for someone who already had a latent disorder. If you can separate WL from a dream there is no issue, but if you have a disorder that seriously makes it impossible for you to believe once you start doubting, then don’t do it.

And here is a post from a member who claims to have experienced an anxiety disorder after attempting lucid dreaming: Link

I’m schizoeffective and I don’t practice methods of self induction out of self-choice, but I have LD’s fairly often. The only valid advice I can give you is that if you’re unsure, take the path of safety. Before you can get any accurate answer to this question, you’ll have to find a professional in real life that can learn about you. The answers to these kinds of things can vary greatly from person to person because of personalities, morality, and self desires and wishes.
