Ok so far my dream recall is pretty amazing even without a journal. I need to start one asap. Last night i tried to go into a lucid dream state. I laid down in a comfortable position. Started breathing 5 seconds in 10 seconds out to relax. I actually never felt so relaxed in my life. I did this for about an hour. Didn’t move at all. During this time my mind was completely blank. I saw nothing, no images or no nothing, i was just looking into darkness. Out of no where it the darkness became PITCH dark. I felt like something was happening. I have never had a feeling like this happen in my life. To describe it, it was something like taking ecstasy.
It wasn’t the part when it kicks in and you feel amazing. It was the part when you feel like ok its starting. Your body becomes anxious and you feel a bunch of anxiety. Its like the butterflies you get when your around a girl you really like.
But mine was 10000000x stronger. It was actually pretty scary. Everything kept getting darker and the anxiety became stronger. I felt it throughout my WHOLE body. Kinda felt like my body was going to explode or something. I got scared and opened my eyes. Ruined the whole thing. Tried to relax and do it again but i failed. So i just went to sleep.
Was i entering lucidity? While in relaxed mode should i be picturing images in my head? Because my mind is always blank, i dont see anything i just look into the darkness.
I’ve actually had this happen to me before. It is the onset of sleep paralysis and the beginnings of your mind and body going to sleep.
Funny thing is, I always get to that exact same spot the few times it has happened to me. But the idea is, if you can maintain a state of calm awareness, that black visage will eventually become a dream in which you can completely interact in.
I will try again tonight. The only thing is that it takes a long time to get there. Hopefully it won’t be as scary this time b/c it scared the sh*t out of me last night. Do you know how long i have to stay in that state until it turns into a dream? Should i be picturing things while in that state?
Well it depends on wether you had already slept that night any (I think - I may be corrected) but if you hadn’t - I’d not expect you to be able to maintain that consciousness all the way into an early dream state, ALTHOUGH, you may indeed begin to see things (I’ve experienced it too - usually using WBTB) called hypnogogic imagery after the “intense” feeling you described. Not quite a dream, but certainly interesting stuff (later in the night, this HI can easily and quickly warp directly into a dream). It’s certainly nothing to worry about - happens every night to all of us… only difference is, unless we actually TRY as you have done, we don’t often recall it, that’s all
