Weird sounds

As always, I’m getting to the point and questions as quickly and shortly as possible.

So I was in my bed, it was almost 12pm (0:00), there was no light in the room and it was hot as hell also (just to point out some facts). Once I had fidgetted for almost five or so minutes, I found the right and comfortable sleeping position. I was now on my side with my face towards the wall.

I have tinnitus (Google is one of your best friends), so usually my dozing doesn’t pass quietly (to me). Suddenly, everything went quiet for a split second, and I heard this really loud gong sound, like a really loud transistent drum sound (like an open hi-hat). I was like, what the hell?! After about 20 seconds it happened again, and once more.

I’ve read about these auditory hallucinations (I’m not even sure what I’m talkin’ about here) and that they come when trying to WILD (but I didn’t).

Here are the questions:

  1. What was this sound?
  2. Why did it repeat many times?
  3. If anyone has had any similar stuff happening, please share.

And that’s about it. Thanks guys!

I believe many people get HS while trying a WILD technique for instance. But you can also get these sensations when going to sleep.
The biggest difference between WILD and normal going to sleep is that you don’t worry about being aware during normal going to sleep. But the sensations may still happen…

I don’t think someone should be afraid of it. But I don’t know why it did repeat so many times, maybe you where too long in the stage when the HS are frequent.

If they are close to hurt your ears, maybe you have a problem bigger than just HS. Some sounds may be caused by “Tensor tympani muscle” and may not be just HS.

(thanks to OmkAR for the info found in the last paragraph)

Thanks for the information, Tggtt!
I’m thinking the sounds were not involved with the muscle, because they didn’t hurt ears and the ENT has not detected this on any of my visits.
It was/is scary, but I think everyone who has this (incl. myself) should learn to live with it.
