Last night (or this morning, rather, since I was doing WBTB) I attempted WILD for my first time. (I have only had one LD before, and it wasn’t very vivid, and I didn’t have much control. I used the MILD method.) I was sleeping on my stomach, and I counted up to one hundred, saying I’m dreaming between the numbers at first, then it got annoying, so I just counted. It seemed to work normally. Eventually I became numb, and finally what I believe was sleep paralysis set in. It felt like my arms (it didn’t really happen with the rest of my body) were dipped in hot water, and then feeling in them subsided completely, except for a dull pain. I later figured out that this was from the position my arms were in, and I regretfully moved them down to my sides, setting me back a little. So I continued, and eventually I got to what I thought was the entering point to the dream. I didn’t get any HI unless I really concentrated on my vision, and I had no audible or kinesthetic hallucinations. However, I could fairly easily visualize my dream that I wanted to enter. It was in the dark on some grassy hills with someone. This was when my heart started racing, but I was able to breath slowly and calm it back down. However, I had trouble getting into the dream. I tried opening my eyes, but I was not involved enough, and I opened them in WL (it was actually fairly difficult to open them however, and I believe I only opened them partway). When this didn’t work, I tried log rolling, as in physically trying to log roll, because I heard it would work. I tried rolling down the hills, but though I did it in my pre-dream, it didn’t get me out of my consciousness of my body, and my RL body moved a little, though it was disabled considerably by SP. I tried this several more times without success, and eventually I gave up and went to sleep normally. Was I being too focused on the one scene? (I also tried to visualize something more familiar, but nothing came to mind besides my room, and I had a feeling that that wouldn’t work very well.) Was I not far enough into sleep?
Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I got very close, but I never got real hallucinations, though a few random thoughts and images did float into my head. I also did not really get any “knowingness” that I could step into the dream.
Thanks!
That is indeed very good for your first time, Okapis. I think the problem was that you weren’t asleep enough. If you feel like you’re not involved enough in the dream or it’s not vivid enough, just wait a little while and keep visualizing. Eventually you will actually enter the dream and the next time you try to interact with the dream it’ll work. WILD takes a lot of patience, but it sounds like you’re close. Just hang in there a little while longer next time you try.
Good luck!
Cool, thanks. If I don’t get it tonight, I’ll stop for a while, because I’m extremely tired. I know I shouldn’t do it tonight, but I’m much too obsessed to stop now.
I know the feeling. Just remember that there is such a thing as wanting it too much.
@Okapis
Your techniques are sound. Don’t worry.
I find WILD an extremely hard technique to master, still struggling after 8 years. Main thing about anyting that has to do with LD’ing: don’t get frustrated! Simply take your time!
WILD can vary from person to person on different levels of difficaulty and time, seems like your on your way though
You’re doing pretty good already
One thing I see many people saying:
What do you mean by “went to sleep normally”? (I know what you mean, I’m just saying think about it ) To WILD you must fall asleep, so what’s different from what you were doing while trying to WILD and going to sleep normally? (besides losing consciousness, of course!)
Just something to think about. Try to learn the suble difference and then when you WILD do as you do when you go to sleep normally but stay aware. Or maybe next time you give up and go to sleep, just pay attention to how falling asleep feels like. The biggest part of WILD you’ll have to learn for yourself, since there are lots of subtle experiences one can’t put a name on it! So just keep trying focusing on the whole experience, to learn how it works for you, and not only on the results hope the wall of text made sense…
Thanks for all of the responses. I mean that I moved around a bit to stop the SP, and I mean that I let myself lose consciousness.
