I’m having a dilemma about dreams as the title states. When I wake up in the morning and try to remember my dreams, how can I tell the difference if that is actually what I dreamed about or if that is something I am remembering from yesterday or possibly me just making something up from the desperation of trying to remember a dream.
I don’t have very good dream recall and only sleep roughly 6-7hrs a night, so I was wondering what are the clear signs that it is actually a dream I am remembering in the morning?

the answer is … you just know (I know it isn’t very helpful)
you can avoid not making things up by just tentatively seeking for the dream memory and not forcing it.
it will probably become easier for you if you begin to keep a dream journal and get used to writing them down.
I have trouble distinguishing a lot of dreams from reality.
As I go through the day, random dreams will pop into my head, but I will take some of the realistic ones as memories.
It gets really confusing, but kind of fun to try and tell them apart.
I have tried to continue conversations with my friends that were started in my dreams. They seemed confused.
Just try to think really hard about it, if there was anything out of the ordinary, it could have been a dream. There isn’t much advice we can give you, just try and think it through.
@taffer: this generally happens to people who have a bad dream recall, or people who believed they never had dreams. When they start to recall bits of dreams coming from out of nowhere, they are often surprised.
@Bones: false memories in real life happen sometimes when you enhance your dream recall. It happened to me twice and it’s very curious. Once you have a correct DR and you are accustomed to remember dreams, it disappears.
