I have been interested in romantic lucid dreaming. Beening able to be with anyone of my choosing in the safe confines of my mind is very appealing… I have had limited sucess. But this is not the reason for the post. In developing a technique to enter a lucid dream I have stumbled across something weird.
My technique invovles deep breathing, total body relaxation, and high mental focus. Within 15 to 20 minutes my body is numb and I become paralyzed. I know that I am sleep because I can hear myself snoring. REALLY!!! Althought I can hear everything the “real” world I can not respond or move even to the telephone ringing to the doorbell. This is only the first part… With more mental focus I feel as if a am shoved into a dark void and I feel as if I am flying at very high speeds. I feel myself twisting, turning, climbing, and falling. I no longer able to hear the outside world. I am in a void all alone and I see in shades of black, white, and grey.
This has happend to me about four times already. The first time it happened scared the dickens out of me. But I found that this void is peaceful but unfornenatly I have not been able to manipulate my surroundings in any way. I can leave this void and wake up at will. The concept of time is pretty warp here. It feel like I been there only a few minutes but actually I been there several hours. I know this wasn’t a Lucid dream because REM happens in certain parts of sleep. I have no ideal what the heck this was but when I woke up from it I feel fully rested and in a good mood. I know it sounds crazy but it has been happening. If I don’t use my technique I usaually fall into a standard sleep pattern.
Has anybody heard of this or experince this themselves?
Yes indeed… you’re talented. I often practice that technique too and it’s cool! I just love being in this type of trance. I’ll let Jeff say something because he’s much wiser than me.
Perhaps this technique resulted in LSing - lucid sleeping, which means that you stay fully conscious while you’re in NREM sleep.
But as everyone else mentioned: Jeff is the real expert in this area
Oh something to add… LS as mystic called it can also be called WILD. You may have WILDed by an accident. You should try that again in order to enter a dream state. It’s the best method for lucid dreaming.
Hi Thaspot, interesting post…(sorry for posting so late )
I combined years ago meditation, selfhypnosis and trance breathing including an important nerve centre called the plexus solaris…and found out that this way i can stay conscious through all levels of sleep.
You use breathing and deep relaxation (induction of trance) and high mental focus…that is much the way i do it…in the basic line.
To tell in short:
I go lay down on my back on my bed.
I lay my righthand on my plexus solaris left hand on the right.
My ellbows and the top of my head form this way a perfect triangle.
i close my eyes and act if my heads falls a sleep. I melt awareness and breathing and mental focus as one and focus that…(experience that) in the plexus solaris spot. Then your brain and body fall a sleep slowly, but not your consciousness. At first you hear still sounds from outside your body…you still feel your whole body. That slowly changes…more and more consciousness is disconnected from your body. My body feels then weightless and i experience a grey void that when the trance goes deeper changes to dark grey and even to black. I dont feel a body anymore long before that.
I also am then just conscious…very empty lol. Then at a certain point, in the centre of my consciousness, a little orange visual like a fractal appears. The more i relax the larger the fractal becomes. So the more empty my consciousness becomes the more the orange fractal is getting closer to me. I can then c moving in it, and soon after i c a dream in it. The fractal keeps getting larger and i go through it and enter a dream with full but empty consciousness. I had 4 ten years an eeg machine and the main brain waves before entering a dream with consciousness is mainly alpha waves…witch u indeed experience as emptyness of mind when they get dominant in your conscious. Well in my lucid dream i use my dream body to to this same routine again. So i let my dreambody fall a sleep…with the routine of meditation , breathing and selfhypnosis. then your dreambody desolves and you enter a pitch and pitch black void. pure emptyness here. Way deeper then the first void. No visuals here.
that is the realm of the deep sleep. Under the deep sleep all changes again.
In the first void you can wake up fast if u want…in the second void u cant…waking up really takes time here! And you always go through dream stage when u wake up from this level…so you go back the way you came from deep sleep to nrem to rem to waking.
I find both voids addicting lol…and yes you can fly in the first void…having that experience i mean!
you have 4 levels of trance in this sleep and sub levels within a level.
being awake
the first void…also hypnogogic levels
3 rem sleep dream
the second void (deep sleep)that is real black…no grades of white here or grey.
As you describe it you where i think in the first void…thats a trance stage between sleeping and waking. But you are talented i think because most ppl cant combine meditation and breathing and mental focussing and stay in that in between trance stage 4 long. alos if u dont have enough alpha waves here u just c some hypnagogics and thats all…while You experience a grey, white black void…so that means u got a big amount of alpha waves
at that moment. So you got trance talent.
Time can be funny thing indeed in the first void…experiencing minutes while they are one or 2 hours…almost timeless even you can reach here. In the second (pitch black) void your experience of time is quite normal again.
You could go from this stage into rem sleep…could do many things from this stage. Never tried to deepen your trance beyond this level?
Yes Jabbervock i read some post where ppl went from a dream or ld like me into the second void…they just didnt knew what was happening to them and thought they had an obe…in fact they just left rem sleep and entered the deep sleep…that can happen and by reading the posts it sometimes indeed happens to ppl accidently.
I often go from rem sleep to the second void witch is the deep sleep itself. I do that like i said in other posts by using selfhypnosis and meditation and breathing to let the dream body and consciousness fall a sleep…then the dream body desolves and the dream to and you enter the second void.
The advantage is that you can enter the second void from dream stage or rem sleep very fast…just let your dreambody fall a sleep but stay conscious yourself…
To help you Jabbervock…start in your next ld trying to make your dreamhand fall a sleep. Make it empty…total…then your arm then your legs etc etc till you do the same with your consciousness…
Hypnosis experience helps here big time…just use the word sleep at your hands
This explains more in depth what has been happening. Thank you. Once I am in the first void I have no clue on how to progress. How would you best enter REM sleep from this point?
hi Thaspot , well ehm you could try to spin around in this void results for some in entering rem sleep, or you can try to even be more empty…because a little more emptyness and you c in your centre of your consciousness a portal to dream stage appearing where you can enter a dream from…so you need a little more alpha waves…emptyness.
What most pl dont know is that if you relax and go into a trance…or wild…
you dont go down/deeper in a straight line…at any certain time you enter a horizontal platform…this happens so your brain can adjust to the changing from waking into sleep. And at this horizontal platform you just have to wait till you go further down in to a deeper trance…so maybe its just practise and patience you need and letting a little bit more go.
What could be interesting though 4 your talent could be a book about dream yoga!
See what I mean? He is much wiser than me! And yes I agree with him. May I add something?
In your dream if you want to enter into 2nd void trance, you can just dive or fall. That’s what I do and it always snap me out into deeper trance (2nd void level). As long as you’re not scared of falling or diving, then it’s a great and fun technique to do in your LD.
By the way, Jeff, you choose the words very well. I tried to explain, but then I gave up and said that you, Jeff, is much wiser than me. lol!
Indeed you can try that to Thaspot!
The fun part is that this tech has a great potential in it.
If you are very talented you can go through all levels of trance
with the falling tech…just try it. Its just totally letting go
