What dreams are trully made of

So, we all, or most of us, hopefully not just me lol. Know that when we enter REM sleep the body releases DMT and thats how or plays a major factor in how we dream.

For those who don’t know DMT is a hallucinogen drug that is in humans and most plants and animals. It is released when you are born, in your dreams, and when you are about to die. It can be smoked to cause hallucinations and is a common drug used to do so.

Now heres my question.

1.Go to sleep
2.Body releases DMT
3. Enter REM sleep
4. Oh no a scary dream wakes up in middle of dream
5. Everything is perfectly normal.

And why is that? How come when we wake up from our dreams, everything is normal. If the body released DMT while we are sleeping, then how come when we wake up the effects of it are suddenly gone. How come there are know after effects? When DMT is smoked it lasts 5-30 minutes. Lets say you go to sleep, body releases it, you wake up 3 minutes into the dream. How come we are not tripping our nuts off when we wake up from a dream?

I hope someone knows the answer, I am extremely curious…

EDIT: I am not sure if this is the right section, I didn’t know where to post this. Mods please move it to the corrent area if it is. Thanks.

I’m also interested in DMT, and I’m glad you posted about this.

I think we have such wacko dreams because of the DMT release, but I don’t understand either how we can wake up and not still be in the trip. Maybe the brain immediately shuts the effect off or something.

But I’ve also heard it’s a very little amount the brain secretes, possibly not enough to see or feel in the waking reality, yet just enough to cause dreams when we close our eyes…I’m not sure.

book comment removed, please keep the topic to dreams and naturally occurring DMT :moogle:

Could be right JJdreamer, but I would think it would cause at least some effect to right when we wake up, even the mildest of hallucinations since it can do something for our dreams. I would think the most likely thing is the brain just can shut off the effects when you wake up is gonna be my guess so far.

Some people experience hallucinations, when they wake up from a dream. At least I do. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the dream and I can see pictures hanging on walls, or some face flying in the air and then it slowly dissolves into nothingness. Other people see bugs running on walls, stuff like that. I always wondered why it happens, DMT might be the reason.

i’ve heard that when you’re dreaming a ND, the part for logic in the brain is turned off. and so the brain accepts the things DMT makes is see, i guess. so first of all, it’s probably so little DMT - enough to work only when the brain’s logical part is shut off. when we wake up, the logic kicks in, and it makes the effects go away, probably. since it’s so small, plus the logic’s on, it shouldn’t do much. but yes, some people have hanging hallucinations, i too don’t always completely wake up. when i wake up especially from a bad dream, i will fear the corners of the room… sometimes it feels more round, moving, vibrating, i don’t know, changing? i mean, after you wake up after a dream, it definitely feels like a different world.
and sometimes, when you wake up but lie around with eyes closed, a dream will half-continue, although you might be also sleepily talking with your mom. that happens to be quite a lot. so maybe that’s the effects of wearing off. i mean it’s not like you have a dream, wake up and all of a sudden you feel completely sane, awake and ready to go, eh? you don’t.

so that’s my theory at least.
