What if scientists could invent a machine to make you dream.

Like a dream helmet or something.
You set it then you can dream whatever you want.

Discuss.

well, it would be a nice drug

:welcome:

That’d be pretty cool. Futurey…

What a pointless thread. You’ve wasted an entire MySQL record on this, and a PHPBB setup as complex as this takes a lot of processing power. To shame!! T’would be nice, but it’ll never happen until we can control the rest of other people’s minds anyway, and by that time such devices will be long since banned.

Well, i think that the natural dream schedule that our body is used to induce is good enough. I think that disturbing it IN REGULAR BASIS will cause problems for you eventually.

So it would better us not to be lazy and count on machines, but to improve our dream recall and induce nice dreams before we go to sleep :content:

Id sell my kidney to get one,set it on “eternal mode” and be happy.
Btw, i dont see anything problematic in having lds on regular basis- apart from obvious fact that there are people who do it and still do fine, its subjective thing depending on one. Some would say that having 5 cofees a day would eventually cause a problems but this depends on many factors.
As to your last sentence Cyrus- stop being lazy and getting to school/work by bus/tram/auto cuz your body is made for walking good enough:)

Sounds like something out of a film … has anyone seen the 6th day? Sorta like that

drug being the key word.

i’m sure electircally induced REM could have great possibilities (imagine it being used for virtually reality programs by stimulating certain content areas and feeding you “subliminal” game programming, or something)

but if you want to experience glimpses of the dream state (varying from “hypnagogic” to full blown OBE) artificially there are things called psychedelics which have been here for us to use for ages… i think they would do a better job than science will be able to for quite a while.

be careful of course.

At Laurentian University (in a city near my house) they have a psychophysiology lab, where they have this helmet they put on your head, kind of like a light an sound machine, only it uses electrical waves to alter your brainwave patterns. It has produced hallucinations, OBE and dreamlike states of mind, etc. Something like that could be turned into a dream machine, but I’d hate to imagine how much it would cost.

I saw a documentary on Discovery about such a lab- i think it was just Laurentian uni you have mentioned.
They got amazing results inducing Obe like states using both- electric and electromagnetic field.
I dont think it would be costly- device looks quite simple- question is whare on the helmet/head should sensors be and how strong must be the field.
Since its close to your place- dont they have like open days or something when you can go there and see all for yourself and ask some questions?

Yeah, actually, I think you may even be able to volunteer as a test subject. That would be fun

PS - I think it might have been the same documentary we both saw, it was like a football helmet with electrodes on it and stuff, wasn’t it?

And the guy`s name was Persinger if i remember it right.

I don’t remember the name but I could go check on Laurentian University’s website and have a look for him

I saw a docuemtary on this a few years ago, the helmet is designed by Dr Persinger and is known as the Shakti helmet. Dr Persinger and another scientist called something Goran created the helmet but they also gave the schematics to some guy who for the last few years is selling these helmets. Well there more of bands of magnets that you wear on your head which does just what the Shakti does but for under 100 dollars.

Here is the website

www.innerworlds.50megs.com

and here is the 3 versions that they have got

I did post this quite a while ago on here but not really anyone found it interesting.

This can create hallucinations both auditory and visually. It also creates the sensed presence feeling.

These exepreiences may come on for a few seconds or even just in a flash and then leave you. But i believe that if you use this as a training aid it may give you altered state experiences such as a LD and OBE. I would think if you don’t fear the sensed presence and stick with it and go with the auditory and visual hallucinations and allow them to grow larger you may be able to change the imagery and then be out of the body. As while you are wearing this helmet you don’t go to sleep, your awake through out the expereince. I think it would be good to get a few and try it and give our experiences on here. Who knows this may be the ultimate holy grail for inducing these metaphysical expereinces.

very interesting thing that helmet…ive never seen anything like it! but what they are describing seems like things you can experience already with meditation, dreaming etc and its not really that revolutionary, is it? But it is interesting that they know so much about how the brain works and they can use it in such ways they have.

i think everyone will have one in the future. i base this thought based on the fact that i believe The Jetsons is a real life glimpse of the future. And in one episode Elroy has a dream machine and he sets it on space ranger or something because he want’s to dream about that. So there you have it, if The Jetsons can do it, so can we.

I can’t be serious… Or can I?

I’d sure love to give that helmet a try.
I live close to the University, maybe I can be a volunteer for an experiment

You know i was thinking that this helmet device used while using OBE techniques may get you out of the body in no time. Perhaps some of us should buy one, what do you think?

I would purchase one, if the price was right.

What is the price, anyway?

cheap version level 1:

i think the above is a good price, i might buy one but i think a group of us should get one each and then we can post our experimenting on this.
