What is Astral Projection, and how is it different from LD?

I’m just wondering, what is the difference? Also, in Astral Travel, do you REALLY see real events outside the mind? I hear from my grandmother that LD is ok, but AP uses demons… I just need some clarifacation…

AP and LD are the same, what is different is what we think about the dream world while we are in it, AP believe it is real, and LD thinks its just in the mind

people who believe in AP use the LD world to learn about themselves or explore, LDers are more likely to just run and be wacky and have fun, and treat it as a video game like experience, rather than take the DCs seriously as existing,

some DCs are ourselves, and our imagination, some seem to contain a reality that makes them different,

what is strange is if you go around in this world and ask people to prove they are real, it doesn’t get you anywhere, they just don’t disappear like they can in dreams, although you can indeed control DCs and make them do things which advocates them being “unreal”, so it depends

its not very useful to wonder about demons,
anything in your nightmares could technically be one, but its not the right name for it.

only talk to positive and free thinking people about lucid dreams, old people can be very very very scared of what is actually normal and good

They are most likely the precise same thing. The brain is a complicated biological machine, but both LD’s and AP’s are in fact variations on hallucinations. AP consists of “projecting” your real self into your “Astral” self, so that you walk through the world with your Astral body… but you aren’t really. They are just forms of hallucination.

And please, think for yourself and do not let your relatives and friends influence you like that. I think it is so terrible whenever kids and teens are indoctrinated like that. Think for yourself; draw conclusions from evidence you find, not the other way around.

nothing is a hallucination because all that is experienced is real,

hallucination implies that causality does not exist :yinyang:, in which case there would be no us and this conversation cannot happen

it is never useful to view things in terms of tiny bits and pieces because it makes the personality very bleak and uninspired, its all language differences saying the same thing, but in different gradients of vividity

when people invented the world hallucination, they used it as a banishment ritual, to say THAT IS NOTREAL, because they were afraid of it and judgmental towards those who were experiencing something they were not

however when those sorts of people became interested in exploring the “mind” then they invented less judgmental terms for experience,
its the difference between natives and crusaders, linguisitically

Of course not. If you’re aware of something ficticious in your mind, then you yourself can call it a hallucination.

If I took LSD, knowing it causes hallucinations, and saw a green rabbit next to me, I would know that I was hallucinating, and I would call it a hallucination.

I think that they’re the same thing (and many AP techniques are similar to WILD), but there’s no doubt that the experience is very different

Try reading lucid dreaming (maybe it’s called lucid dreams…) by robert waggoner. there is a section devoted to OBE’s and it explains what the differences between the two experiences are. that’s the best advice i have for you…

Thanks for the advice…

I am trying to develop spiritually, and I had a scare for a moment there, for I thought that AP and LD might be connected, and then… demons, ect.
But, yeah, that puts it in a better light than wikipedia (And most of my relatives…) did…

i’m working this question out as best as i can answer it :

if you are a normal person and do good and do your best, in average dreams you will only encounter normal things, normal places,
if you spend time around really bad people, or negative media , then you might run into demons in dreams, in that sense of the word,

if you have inner turmoil and negative emotions in your mind, again, these situations might happen in dreams,

and by dreams this can also mean “astral” because almost all of us here are in a fairly normal “astral” or “dream” world except when we are dealing with overcoming some issues, and sometimes we overcome issues for other people, not ourselves, because being on Earth means we take a certain responsibility in everything that happens here, the best approach is to love everything best as you can, and trust you will be fine

focusing on these issues too much creates paranoia

don’t fight with anything ever, make peace in the self, in a mental reality this heals our mind,
this thread makes me puzzled and interested, it seems the only right model for me is to view everything in my dreams as part of me

Obviously, in a lucid dream, you know that you are dreaming. In astral projection, you don’t. (You think, or “know”-- or look back later and say-- that you are or were on the astral plane.) Astral Projection is just a paranormal interpretation of OBE’s, and sometimes even dreams and meditations… so there is some overlap, but it’s more in interpretation than category.

That said, there is at least one experiment that obliquely detected an extension of awareness:
paradigm-sys.com/ctt_articles2.cfm?id=50 (search for “25132”)
and did not detect any demons. But, the state of mind is very important one way or the other-- so, I admit that a part of me even believed my friend and aunt who held the same opinion as your grandmother, and that little bitty fearful part put a stop to my own practice. As long as you worry, you likely won’t be relaxed enough to AP, and so will have nothing to worry about.

the thing on this tangent is that when people are programmed with fears or strong emotions these thoughts can very very very quickly enter the mind when a novel state of consciousness comes,

meditation dissolves all of this safely (as would prayerful meditation, praying deeply for a long time, i suppose ? ) because you are cleaning things up in the seed form, before they grow into plants (dream forms and etc), which makes your dreams usually peaceful
