What was this, exactly?

Hey, I am not especially new to lucid dreaming, though I can’t call my self very experienced either. I haven’t gotten even close to completing a WILD so I don’t know what that feels like either, anyway, 'nough about that.

I had a weird experience last night, and it was quite unexpected I was hoping someone could tell me what it was.
I was listening to one of the tapes that comes with Paradiso (The guy talking) just to experiment. (I never actually really listened to him before 'cause his voice sorta annoyed me. ) Anyway, I started getting relaxed, yet my focus was drifting all over the place. I kept daydreaming and then I would pull my attention back to his voice and it went back and forth a few times. I had the sinking feeling then my body felt weightless (which isn’t new to me, that has happened many times). I thought nothing of it and kept the cycle going for another 5 or so minutes. I was in the middle of an extremely vivid daydream, totally lost focus of the guys voice, when all of a sudden the picture “shut off” and I saw the back of my eyelids. It wasn’t your usual fade, it was like someone turned off the power with a snap, it even startled me a little. Then I started seeing the flashing images (Like when you press on your eye-lids) except they weren’t flashing and they were solid. They were flowing sorta like a river and spiraling in circles sorta like a moving/forming picture with un-solid lines. That lasted about 20 seconds then it slowly faded back to the normal back of my eyelids and my focus went back to the guy’s voice, of which I was no longer interested and was more thinking, “What in the bloomin heck was that?”

A little explanation would be nice.

P.S. Wow, sorry for the long topic.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this was before bed, around 10pm and I wasn’t even really that tired, which is why I put the guy on.

Sounds like the ‘Phosphene Field’ , I always get that before I get proper HI when I’m falling asleep, tho usually not too vivid. Personally I get all kinds of interesting stuff like fractals, spriralling shapes + colours, lines, streaks + flashes. But I thought everyone got this, so maybe yours was something else again. Or maybe I’m just strange.

i usually drift to sleep without proper HI, but then again i become lucid through rules, and not proper WILD…anyways, it is normal for people to get this, and that sinking feeling is also normal, this usually happens when you “let go of your earthly self” or something, idk thats what the guy i read it from was talking about, its like forgetting that you actually have a body, and focus on nothing except whats in your thaughts, and normally, you dont have any itches, scratching feelings, or any other problems in this point of time, wich is helpful, but its a step torwards getting proper HI and an attempt at a WILD.

Yeah, I have “lost thought of my body” quite a few times, and had that sinking feeling. (I love it when it happens. ) But that second part was new, never happened before. So you are saying that is the beginning of a WILD? If I continued, would it have gone into a dream? If so, how is it that I entered that state so easily before bed when I wasn’t even tired?

EDIT: Heh, yay for nooby questions.

the phosphone field is a step to WILD, the trick is, keeping them there 'till you can find the key.
the “key” (what i call it) is a picture in HI that normally appears in the phosphone field, that allows you to enter a dream when you focus on it, its different for everyone, ive tried WILD, and succesfully entered the dream, but without knowing it, i think mine is an anchor of some kind :eh:
yes, if you kept them there, you might have, if you found the key, but sometimes you can enter a WILD without even knowing it, not sure how this works, but hey.
anyways, you can enter the phosphone field anytime with practice, ive done it once or twice while meditating, same thing with waking-sleep-paralysis, but thats a simpler think to do.

Ah interesting… well, I will have to practice this more often, it was definitely an interesting experience and I would love to further it into a WILD sometime in the future.

Thanks for all the help.
