What was this?

I awoke at 5:40 this morning, and, with about 25 minutes until my alarm clock would go off, I went back to sleep.

However, I kind of… “caught” myself as I was falling asleep, but I didn’t wake up. I was lying on my stomach, arms above my head. I started hearing a really strange buzzing sound, and I remember feeling very confused as to what this was. I wanted to turn it off, but I didn’t know how, and I couldn’t move. I then simply fell asleep.

Was this the hypnagogic state or sleep paralysis or what?

my guess is sleep paralysis

I agree with quantum physics, it sounds like sleep paralysis. I can get that if i got to sleep extremely tired. It is possible to start a lucid dream from that state through the WILD technique. Usually, the eyes are the first body parts that can move if you want to break out of it and wake up.
