Why Do We Have False Awakenings?

Why is it that it seems as if your brain is trying to trick you to wake you up.
Last night I had a false awakening, but I didn’t fall for it. Because I wanted to go down stairs to eat breakfast but I couldn’t open my eyes. Then I did an RC and knew I haven’t left the dream yet.

But it’s weird. The first LD I had I had three FA before I woke up. It’s like your dreams are trying to trick you to lose your lucidity.

For eg:
Let us take a situation that you are going to your office on weekdays.

Let this be your map.

You need to go to the right (on a “T” cross) to get to the office and, to the left to go to a theter.

It was a weekend . You plan to go to theater and got ready at the same time you always go to the office. If you are listening to a song and driving , i assure that you will go to the right, instead of the left! :woo:

I hope you understand why this happens! i.e: it happens due to low conscious state and also due to routine work you used to have on weekdays.

This is similar in the case of dream also! Once you have a dream, you must wake at some time. This is routine. And due to some physical alteration, you happen to distract your lucid state and gives you a FA!

Hope i am correct, if not then please correct me!

What you expect can often lead to what you dream. Perhaps your brain is expecting to wake up but doesn’t…

I guess that’s the most accurate description.

Even that there are natural LDs, I remind all that LDs are not normal dreams, then brains aren’t “made” to LD, they always tend to the most common possibility, as Rinaldo Rex claimed.

Upon regaining consciousness, you are most likely to be awaking…

Thanks. I was starting to think that my subconscious was trying to prevent me from becoming lucid or something and that I would have to trick it somehow. Your explanation makes much more sense.

Some time ago when i was novice dreamer i noticed that FA are often effect of strong emotions within LDs at least. In first and second LD, just got FA after few seconds because I felt so happy that i did it. Later on i learned to be calm and how to silence emotions. FA happens also in ND when you do not have any consciousness at all. For me they happen mostly in nightmares, adult dreams or when I stop paying attention.

I found theory on other forum that FA is like safety catch. It’s purpose is to protect us from premature real aweking due to strong emotions or being not interested in dream. Sound good to me.

the thing about strong emotions really does make sense. when i had my first LD, i was freaking out a lot, and i had like 2 FA right after.
