There is a sticky up there about “How did you learn to lucid dream”, but I’m rather wondering why people decide to learn.
I’ve read on other websites about lucid dreaming that some people do it to “fight nightmares”, or “stop losing time sleeping”, or even “practice real life situations”… All that seems almost anecdotal compared to what is lucid dreaming.
I mean, as I’ve already talked about a little there, I’m going to learn just for the sake of it…
It seems so… huge to me. Almost magical. I’m not mystical at all, but I’d almost think this could be the most transcendent experience in life ever ! I long for my first provoqued lucid dream.
So, did you have a similar reaction when you learned that lucid dreaming is possible ?
I decided to learn how becuase I remember seeing an episode of Blues Clues ( a child’s tv show that came out like 10 years ago ) when I was small and I learned that you could do anything you wanted in your dream. I tried once when I realized I was dreaming ( which was actually when I was on the set of blues clues dancing with chicken Mcnuggets ) and found that it was true.
I had another LD when I was in 6th grade. We were cutting papers or something when I just realized that I was dreaming. It just came out of nowhere, “wait a second, I was sleeping I am not supposed to be in school right now”. That is when instead of waking my self up like the others I decided to use power’s and what a fun dream it was!!!
So during the summer I decided to do a little research on dreams so teh next time I remembered about it (December ) i sent to wikipedia and typed in “dream”. I read a little and when i came to “lucid dream” I was like this is the one. I went to the lucid dream page and at the bottom was a link to this awesome website. …The End… srry for my life story
Yes, definately. I’ve gotten to where I can have maybe a few LD’s month, and even if I don’t do something “constructive” - such as facing a fear, trying to meet my SG, etc etc - just the experience of BEING THERE is enough.
The realization that the world around me, which I had previously assumed was real, is in fact completely malleable always blows me away. Suddenly coming to the conclusion that anything I think of is possible is just priceless.
…On the other hand, this is sometimes bad. Faced with limitless possibility, I’ve often found myself just standing there, not knowing what to do! Hence the importance of setting your intention to perform a specific action/task before sleep, I suppose.
No, thanks for the answer ! I also started (almost) with Wikipedia. Being a Wikipedia fan, I wondered if all these informations were true or not, but I found them again here, so…
This is exactly how I felt when i first used power in my dreams. This is why I kept( trying to ) at figuring out what those dreams were and how I could get another one, which led me to this awesome website…
I had lucid dreams from time to time when I was 10 years old, but I was using it to wake up or something I’d like to do do IRL. It was cool expereice, and I liked it. But I never throught I’d do anything more than IRL. I got interested in OoBE stuff, and later in LDing. It’s just cool to live for maybe 1 minute maybe 1 hour in world that you own. You can do everything with it, it’s awesome feeling. For some time I’m not bounded by anything, inlcuding logic and phisic laws. Only law in LD is dreamer, and this is essencial, I think. Stuff did in LD can have reflections in RL. These are even unbelieveable stuff as spending days in it, creating living on it’s own world that you can go back after waking up and falling asleep again, things I am aiming for . Lucid dream have great power in itself. But you can also just have fun in LD, not touching higher stuff, that’s also greatly awesome .
I’ve always been interested in things like, insanity and the inner world. I’ve long wanted to know what it’s like. Probably before 3rd grade. The mind just fascinates me. ThenI started noticing some strange dreams. And then when i was in like 10th grade found sites on the internet about lucid dreaming. It seemed to be truly an inner world, and the idea of choosing what to experience is ofcourse the big selling point. So it’s all good. And everything new I learn about it is something positive.
There are alot of things i haven’t tried, but like Yellfish77 I find it good enough to just be there, as well as finding myself itching to do something but don’t know what.
I found out about lucid dreaming because I used to have SP a lot. And one morning when I finally woke up from it I fell onto my couch like I had been sleeping in mid air. Imagination, dream, reality, I have no idea. I went and researched everything on sleep I could and this is what I found.
I learned to LD mainly because it sounded fun, and it would give me control over my SP. Which it has.
I was set on lucid dreaming ever since my friends and I talked from like 10 in the evening to 6 in the morning about dreams and lucid dreaming. My friend didn’t know too much about LDing, but he explained it pretty well. But yeah it’s totally awesome, and i really should thank him next time i see him. I also like knowing a “secret” that nobody really knows about (or like 95 % of the populous). Its fun to talk about it to people who have never heard about it, because i have never gotten a negative reaction. Its either “thats pretty sweet (the i-like-it-but-probably-will-forget-to-look-into-it attitude)” or “OMG THATS AWESOME!!!11!ONE (the overly-exited-must-have-one-tonight attitude)” heh. Nobody can resist it. It could be the ultimate experience. Being in a world where you control anything and everything, you can do whatever you want without consequence. its great
I got into lucid dreaming through wikipedia also. I was trying to find out what they called those cool glove knives freddy krueger has. Then i saw the page and was like OMG!!! I always hated the fact that i wasted so much time sleeping. And it is like the ultimate video game. I can do whatever I want. It’s like bam, I made you, bam, your dead, bam i just turned you into a flying purple rhino/hippo thing I’ve always been amazed at the power of the mind, and I just learned how to harness it. Plus the private club feeling is uber cool too
My biggest person goal at the moment is to get back to this lofely barn with all fresh breads, butter and cool beer
Why LD?
Its fun, why cant something stay fun and not need to be so serious ?
Also, I love the dreamy feeling
What got me in here was an accident. I had been to this site, tried, failed. Then one day i sat down, listening to music, being really depressed, I almost fell asleep, almost WILDing.
I felt like floating.
THat scared me in here, and i will never stop praising that day
I really need to get my lazy ass off and write dj again.
PS: Read Narnia ? I just love it, also i feel it somewhat relates to dreams and daydreams and as it is said “once a king in narnia, always a king in narnia”
I like a few people here had experienced a LD before knowing what is was, the reason why i do it is mainly to increase my DR and as a bonus have a few more LD’s i heard for a friend who’s brother was doing LD’s and thats how i first heard about it. At that point though i’d had already done it a few times just DILD’s. It was a few years later that i decided to look it up on the internet after i had a crazy fun LD with zombies and a shot gun
Thats how i found this site, i sleep like i am dead most of the time so i forget most of the dreams i have proberly LD’s i have too but now i am learning new techniques ive remember more dreams and had a couple of LD’s
The only real reaction ive had is wow to the fact that some people are so good at LD that they are aware almost 24/7 which would a nice ability to have
I found out about Lucid Dreaming through Wikipedia, or some kind of links on the web when I was researching a brain-issue that could improve your ability to see vivid, clear images in your mind. I looked it up after a brilliant digital artist told me he believes he maybe so talented due to his brain.
Silly me, I thought I could do the same and become an amazing artist overnight… I ended up finding a link to this website. I came back here after less than a year deciding to try it after thinking about it for a while.
You could say my initial reasons for wanting to learn were to improve my creativity, but now i’d have to say I want to learn because it seems to be an endless world with endless possibilities and apparently you can have life-like, even clearer experiences (which I can’t wrap my mind around because i’ve only had an almost-life like experience yet alone a hyper-vivid dreamworld with total control)
As some people have said, why not? I’m not using my sleeping hours for anything anyway. Seems like a waste losing a third of the rest of my life.
I don’t feel there’s anything mystical about it either, at least not more mystical than the fact we’re all alive and feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting.
I’ve been interested interested in dreams since the day I knew what a “dream” was. They’ve always seemed like something very important to me, although I never really put much research into it.
About a year ago (possibly less) I had a conversation about seeing the future/reading minds with one of my brothers, and he brought up a story one of his prof’s told him (was a shared lucid dream story). And anyways, ever since then I’ve been pretty interested. For the next while after I heard that story I had done some research on it on the internet and I wanted to do it, but wasn’t even close to motivated enough. Eventually I just didn’t care about it anymore.
skips ahead to early December 2006
I got very interested again and this time actually started a DJ, registered on this forum, the whole shabang. I’ve been trying ever since, with no luck yet. The funny thing is I’m usually very impatient with things, but with this I don’t mind that it’s taking a while because I know sooner or later it will happen.
My reason for why I want to be able to lucid dream is because I consider my self more-less an intellectual. I’m the type of person that is extremely smart, but lazy as hell (ie. rarely put time into studying, leave assignments until night before, etc). I believe that knowledge is infinite, and in an existence where there are no limits, my knowledge can increase enormously.
Oh ya… and I love sleeping.
I could post some things I have in mind to do when I have a lucid dream, but I’ll wait until I experience them to share them. No worries. ^^
I didn’t know what a LD was, nor had ever had one, until my friend told me about them. After that I was immediately interested, although I kindof tossed it aside for a while.
I recently got back into it. Although I’ve yet to have one, like most have said I know that with enough effort I will soon enough, and I think I’m getting cloer&closer all the while.
Why? I had the most boring dreams, not to mention I could barely remember them before. I didn’t really think anything of this until people started telling me their dreams, and I realised mine were so unevenful. Soo, I want exicting dream adventures, too! haha. I also think it’d be fun to do the impossible and have a more controlled mind.
Normally sleep is just something that ‘must be done’, but at least with learning to LD, I don’t feel like my sleep was a waste of time.
I feel like i am advertising for a product and giving a testimonial. hahah
I decided to learn lucid dreaming, because i think its a powerful tool.We can all complain about how short life is,so we can invest in learning and make our lifes bigger in that simple way. Also it is an amazing experience, with more possibilities than normal life.
Roger that. I always feel like I am wasting time when I sleep. I love the feel of it, but I can always think of 100 other things that I would rather be doing (not to mention more productive).
Since I began trying to LD, I almost look forward to sleeping. I still have a hard time convincing myself that I should go to bed now, but at least I have no regrets once I lay down because I am making that time productive now too
I also look forward to interogating myself, when I get the chance.
