Why "Lucid" Dreaming At All?

Well, I want your opinion what do you think why we are able to experience lucid dreaming. It’s common that by default we are not lucid dreamers.

I know it may not be possible to answer this question just like that because it requires a background and that is a definition of a dream and we know that we don’t know what dreams are 100%, there are theories, speculations and some are more appealing some are less…

But tell me your opinion on this, why do you think we are able to control our dreams when we learn it but not by default it’s like a hidden thing we can do which is obviously not written in our genetic code because if it was there we all be natural lucid dreamers. Although we have a possibility I guess it must be somewhere in a code but not entirely.

So your opinion based on your experience, believes and thoughts. It does not have to based on scientific proves although feel free to express your opinion if you have one from a scientific point…

I think it’s nothing more than mind hacking. While we sleep without dreams, we’re unconscious basically, but when we dream in the REM phase, the cerebral electrical activity is basically the same of when we’re awake.

And that’s where the exploit comes in, we’re conscious even if in an altered state. We can “snap out of it” and use the hallucinations the mind uses for who knows what purposes for our own purposes, we can take the wheel and tell the mind what to do (something I think we do to a lesser extent in a ND, ever noticed in one that when you think about certain things they seem to almost always happen?).

Obviously nature is perfectly ok with dreams being normal, but it was also ok with our skin being our only protection from the elements. So take that nature, is what I’m saying, you and your mysterious things.

Yeah I know, I think I made a topic a while back whether we are having some kind of lucidness in NLD too, because even though they are not lucid by definition we do control them in some way…

Thanks on the reply! :content:

You know, a ND is like a game of D&D with the subconscious or whatever as the DM, when you’re lucid you become the dungeon master, an in-game dungeon master. Does that make sense?

Yeah it does! :content:

Most likely that. At least that’s my opinion too.

That’s the human habbit of asking “Why?”. Many of us want to see reason and cause behind everything. We are curious and want to know the answers. In this case, I’m afraid, there is none. I can’t see how lucid dreaming could affect our chances of survival in the proccess of Evolution, therefore I have just to say that it is a by-product of our brain that was not intended.

In relation to asking the question ‘why?’, I was going to say that humans used lucid dreaming to find answers. Of course, that still doesn’t answer why lucid dreaming is possible. I’d like to be able to say that in our creation there was a mishap and a natural ability to lucid dream was damaged, but there’s no possible way to know that. sigh we’ll just have to live with the fact that it’s just a phenomenon.

Something that is not completely explained so it has a room to speculate for what and why is actually possible to have lucid dreams. We use them for many things but maybe we use it wrong .

No, we use it for fun. And having fun is the most important thing in live. In fact, having fun might be the purpose of life. This quote by G. Carlin clearly illustrates that:

I agree and disagree. Why disagree? Well many people, from artists, scientists, producers and others use dreams and lucid dreams as a source of inspiration to solve, create or find the answer on many problems. I think that having fun in LD is the minimum you can do, when one realize how he can benefit from dreams then he finds the real purpose of his dreams…

I think Lucid dreaming could be very useful to get a better chance of survival, especially in the ancient world. You could practice self defense over and over in the dreamworld, in any scenario possible. And for evolution, everything happens by chance, nothing happens for a reason, it just happens. So us getting the ability to lucid dreams just happend, and nothing more…

I agree with dB_FTS
Yes, you should get the max out of life, in other words, have as much fun as possible…

but I also believe that to do that, you must look at how you can make the world a more fun and better place all together. And Lucid dreaming combined with the right skill is an excellent way to do that.

Ever seen something in a dream that was so beautifull or touching that it made you cry, if you were lucid you could pause the moment, memorise it, combine this with the skill of a profesional artist and he/she might make the most beautiful art of all time. And you can think of scenarios like this with so much, scientists, architects, even mathemathicians…
