WILD-ing at Night. Are you Scared?

Sometimes at night I feel the conditions are right for a WILD later on. It’s when my mind is really active and still reeling from the day’s residue.

The problem is that I’m scared to ‘wake up’ in my room where I’m sleeping. It’s just scary to think that i could come across something unexpected in my familiar, safe home…in the dark. Sometimes Im laying there aware that I’m in a dream but afraid to GET UP and experience it.

I set my alarm for later in the morning when it’s light out , but I’m not as tired by then.

I know the most fitting solution would be to immediately visualize a new setting, but I’m just a month in and not good at that yet.

Is there anyone else who feels the same way—afraid to wake up where you sleep?

Nope, the most fitting solution would be to realize that there is nothing that can harm you. :content: Always remember, it is your dream, and you are the king of the dreamlands, so to speak. You are completely in control and can make peace or defeat every single threat. By the way, as you said: your familiar, safe home. You are enjoying a complete home field advantage here! Of course you do so in every dream because they’re all your dreams under your influence, but knowing that you are familiar with a place and feel safe there can be very helpful to have more confidence!

Like Leijona said. You shouldn’t be scared. Even if you do have a bad experience or 2, it’s not even close to wonders that you can experience once when you realize that you are in a dream…

Thanks guys. I’ll TRY not to be scared. I guess I’m the only chicken around here.

You can also use daydreaming to prepare you for any negative experiences. Actually imagine yourself having a lucid nightmare and plan what you will do. Lucid nightmares happen–to some of us more than others. I’ve had a lot of them and I know through trial-and-error that there are good and bad ways to react to them.

I recommend checking out Ryan Hurd’s Dream Studies website. He has an article on there about how to deal with nightmares. I think, too, in his LUCID IMMERSION book he talks specifically about lucid nightmares.

I find it easier to have a sense of humor than to convince myself not to be scared. Telling yourself not to be scared if like telling yourself to not think of white bears. Simply notice that you’re scared and laugh about it.

You’re not the only chicken! That happened to me too when I first started trying to do MILD or WILD or actually anything that involved trying to get a LD. I would get so scared lying in my bed with my eyes closed and not wanting to open them (I always thought I was going to get old had or something) that my heart would start beating really fast, and then I’d also get scared that I’d get a heart attack! But none of those things were true. The heart beat was due to how scared I was.

The way it stopped happening to me was what everyone else here said - I realized that anything that would happen or that I would see will be just in my mind. Even if it’s something scary, it can’t harm me because it’s only in my head. This idea helped me a lot to relax, now I’m not scared anymore

I also get a little scared just reading about some of the things that can happen in a dream. I was trying to WILD (I think, the tut called it FILD…) one and thought I was going into SP. I got scared and stopped because it was so odd feeling, though I wish I had stuck through it =/ something to work towards I suppose

I used to be pretty scared that i would go in SP and see that old hag thing or whatever, but it’s just a dream, you are in control, you can just make them go away.

It’s all in your mind. When you realize that (and with that I mean to really realize it, not just pretend to), you’ll see that you have nothing to be afraid of. Lucid dreaming is supposed to be fun. Don’t let any fears ruin the good experience. Good luck!

I’m not scared. I’m always tired and fall asleep x)

Not scared, and I’ve had the old hag SP thing a couple of times. As long as it’s nothing that can do me any harm, there’s nothing to worry about. I haven’t actively been trying WILDs, but when I feel the vibrations I always go along with them.

You are not alone in being scared while trying WILD, i have had tons of sp’s and every time i say to myself: That wasn’t so bad , next time i try wild i don’t need to be scared! But then comes the night, and i am just as scared as always

LoL…Yeah it’s different when the night finally comes.

I am not scared of the SP because so far I’ve never encountered any scary images.

But I tend to ‘wake up’ right back in my room and it’s just scary to think that if i walk upstairs or downstairs someone (or something) could be waiting for me in “my house”!

However, since posting this topic I had a normal dream which seemed to tell me that there’s nothing to be afraid of. I haven’t been able to achieve an LD lately, but I’m not as scared now.

Im the same way, ive been way to scared to actually attempt a WILD at all. I had quite a frightening experience with sleep paralysis when i was younger and didnt know what all this stuff was. I always tell myself that its not real but that doesnt calm me down too much.
