World Creation and "saving"

Here’s an experiment I’ve been trying to do for about two years now but the answer eludes me.

I had this idea to start building my own Universe piece by piece molecule by molecule inside my mind. I wanted to lay down the foundations and then get to work making planets and cities and people. Every night I tried to do it but there’ s a bit of a snag: the things I add in one dream don’t seem to carry over to the next one, it’s as if my creation isn’t ‘saved’.

I want to know if anyone has tried to do this and if they found a way to keep track, maybe with a dream journal or hypnosis. I’m really looking forward to becoming God. :woo:

Check out WritersCube Dream Journal. I think you will like what you will find.

Generally, what you experience is either lack of memory or lack of confidence. Have you tried recalling what you have created (With detail) before falling asleep?
Or have you tried starting your dream in a void, and then teleporting to your DW?

One of those should help you, though only you can tell which.

Metabog, I think sometimes literature makes a better point than regular argumentation. This being the case here, I refer you to the translation of a short story called “The Circular Ruins” by Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. (The quote in my sig — if I’m not mistaken — is from the beginning of that very story).

On a side note, and now rather off topic and definitely spamish, if you enjoy the story, which deals with creation within dreams — and of course more — showing passages strikingly similar to your description, you might also enjoy reading more of Borges’ work. And, in that case, you’re lucky! We’re going to do a group reading of Ficciones, the book “The Circular Ruins” comes from, starting Saturday, the 1st of March. Click the “Join the Reading Circle” button in my signature if you’re interested.

Sounds good! I can “save” dreams and “load” them when i feel like it INSIDE the dream, but i’m not sure if it works outside… Definitely something worth trying, although i’m not sure how successful you’ll be

My first suggestion is that pieicing together thing molecule by molecule is going to slow things right the hell down (unless of course you mean “in minute detail” which i assume you are)

For me i’ve got some environments i want laid down, try doing what i do by thinking about what you want to build and writing down a description of it and as you go piece it together mentally to get a picture of it and make sure you can recall the picture with ease (not nessecarily down to the slightest detail but still in good form) so that when in your dreams you can simply picture and then teleport/whatever to said place you have visualised (if you have art skills maybe try putting it down on paper or canvas?)

That said i feel that creating something like that (whole planets with your cities and such) may be a bit over the top, while its good to have context i dont think you need to have every minor detail on the polar icecaps of “planet 33” when in reality you probably wont visist such places and can just ad-lib as it were when it comes to going to places you may not have considered before.

I’m no expert (all those 21 LDs you see at the side are “oh I’m asleep… POOF… I’m awake… dammit.”), but I would say that it could be something that is more like saving the large details. If you can do that, it’s a matter of gaining skill until you get the tiny details down. And if the tiny details are large… like, for example, “Under this rock is a blah blah”, then you don’t need to save that. You can just remember that it’s there, and whenever the rock is moved, your mind fills it in. Rather than load it all, remember, and then when you encounter it in the dream world, it will be thus filled in.

Have fun making your own world

Interesting. Reminds me that I’m going to try making an Age of Empires-ish world.

I’ve been wanting to draw out my own world on paper itself. Not necessarily technical designs, but y’know pictures of the places I’d like to go.

I’m a masquerade nut, so I’ve been trying to conjure up some cool ballrooms/castles, but they always turn out modern or… just crummy. The people around them are always dressed wrong.

I think that if I draw out what I want to see, room by room, color by color, I’ll get what I want and the people I would like to see. (Generally people tend to match where I am)

Though, I must say, I’m short on time to dedicate to it. I’m no good at architectural drawings… but I’ll practice and I’ll be sure to tell you how that goes.

EDIT: As an example, IRL I drew out a costume I wanted to wear while in a dream. Designed it and assigned colors to certain parts… When I became lucid, I remembered that drawing and tried to put it on myself, but it would always come out wrong (it was a little too complicated), but hey, it’s a start!!
