I’m just gonna quote it from my DJ entry of last night.
Worst SP Experience EVER
Well, it was an interesting falling asleep last night.
It started off as MILD, but I stayed too aware and so my body alone fell asleep. It started off as a tingling feeling, and then the different levels of SP slowly came. First, I felt difficulties moving my arms - Next, my eyelids started having a life of their own (What’s that all about?) - And last my legs. A few minutes later I felt like a wave sweeper over me, and the SP really got there.
Now, I was completely aware that I had 90 minutes till my first REM-sleep of the night, but I thought SP wasn’t so bad I couldn’t handle it for that long (I mean, if it meant me having a lucid dream). That’s when it got ugly o.O
Lying there in full SP, without much of any HI at all, the uncomfortable feeling started getting worse. I mean, it’s the body checking to see if the mind is still awake - But damn, it felt more like it knew the mind was faking and now trying to really expose it. I got this burning feeling in my arm - At first it wasn’t so bad, I just kept telling myself “It’s not real, it’s not real” while mentally escaping to a daydream. But then the feeling increased and it hurt so bad I had to control my breathing and fight nausea. After a good 30-45 minutes however I started getting used to it (Damn I was badass), and that’s when my body stepped it up.
I felt the burning sensation spreading to my leg as well! At that point I was like “My god just leave me alone! I’m asleep already!”.
I just couldn’t control it any longer - The pain caused me to slowly fight the SP (against my will), but soon I felt how the SP faded - And lastly I opened my eyes. I turned around and felt the last of the SP wash off, and then I did a Reality Check before laying down on the other side.
I tried to do the same thing over again knowing I had less than half an hour till my REM sleep, but even though I felt the SP quickly returning, I couldn’t keep my awareness and fell asleep.
Wow ! A really frightening experience, I must say. I never had had problems with SP’s. I still don’t get what you experienced. Was it like, you got SP-ed. without falling asleep after or during the SP ? That could be a health problem… or couldn’t it ?
Anyways, you couldn’t move anything ? Not even your eyelids ? And how more exatly did you “excape” this terrifing SP ?
Wow. Usually I just feel sort of mildly mentholated before my dream senses tune in. If I fight SP it’s because of the HI that comes with it, or just the fear of not moving when I want to move. It’s never been because I felt something physically painful!
Could it have been that staying in the same position pinched a nerve, or maybe cut off blood circulation to some parts?
No I intentionally kept my mind awake while my body fell asleep in the hope of staying this way till my REM sleep (At which time I would enter a dream).
I… Well… My eyeslids were living a life of their own. I found it really {strange?} {interesting?} - They were twitching contantly, and a while there I wondered “Rapid Eye Movement Gone Bad?” but then I remembered A) I wasn’t in a REM stage and B) I wasn’t dreaming. The SP ended with me slowly starting to move parts I could move - Like the very tip of my fingers, my mouth and opening my eyes. Gradually the SP just washed off.
I wondered this myself a while, but I wasn’t in a position to cause anything like it. I confirmed this when breaking the SP - The pain went away the moment I started moving, even if it meant just wiggling a finger (Which eventually lead to my SP fading off). And when I sat up there was nothing going on with my arms or legs at all.
Well, if you’re into heavy SP, then you’re very close to an actual dream. At that point, even if I still feel my body, I just bring up some imagery, and at some point I either end up in the dream imagery, or get bored and actually roll out of my body in a OBE-like fashion.
Since you’re in SP, it should be fairly easy for you to enter a dream, but remember that you must leave your (real) body behind, so the first step is ignoring it and thinking of something more dream-related, like bringing up imagery, or observing HI. This one whatever the case, SP stages are quite known for their strong sensation that one can occasionally feel, but if you can keep distracted and pull through the strong part, then you’re good to go
The eye-twitching is also something REM-related, so congratulations, since you actually made it to the desired phase, but since a dream is made of fictional senses, you should forget about the real ones including what’s real, like that eye movements.
I tried observing HI, but they wouldn’t last. And I tried imagining a scene, and it did help me endure the SP pain a while but xD I just never managed to enter a dream. One guess would be I didn’t expect myself to enter a dream - I knew I wouldn’t hit a REM stage for another half an hour, and thought if I could just hang in there till then my attempts would succeed. Isn’t that how it works? Anyways, I think by me ““Knowing”” I wouldnt manage to enter a dream that early I simply didn’t.
Wait so the uncontrolled eye-twitching was actually REM? o.O How? I can’t have laid there for more than half an hour before it started. Aren’t dream cycles reset during the day? (Lol I do not want to have had REM and missed out just cos I… Gaaah )
I’ve actually refrained myself from attempting this again because I don’t want to go at it again without knowing what to do differently
