*WOW* experiences – breakthroughs?

A question for those of you who aren’t natural LD’ers - have you had a gradual development of lucidity, or has it come with sudden breakthroughs? I just wonder because in my case, Ive had just a couple of ‘breakthrough’ events, separated by a long time of not much happening.

Way back in April, the very first night after registering on this site and reading as much info as I could, I had some good results - I gained partial lucidity in a few different dreams, and had a blurry FA that led to a blurry OOBE style experience, all in the same night! I called that my first ‘wow’, because id never experienced anything like that before. Since then, ive not really had much more than that, and ive had long lapses into apathy.

BUT this morning I had another breakthrough experience, and I wanted to post this. I hadn’t gone to sleep with any real intentions, didn’t have paper ready to write things down or anything like that. All I had was the habit I’ve got into, of casually thinking about LD’ing before drifting off to sleep.

I don’t have a DJ here, but I wanted to share my experience I had last night…

Basically, for what seemed like over an hour of dream-time, I kept looping through lucidity, FA’s, then into semi-lucidity and back to lucidity. All this came after having a vivid and exiting non-lucid dream, which was quite unusual for me and would have been worth writing down in itself… Ive never been so overwhelmed with stuff at once, I wish I could remember more!!! It went on so long that I can only remember fragments, and I have no idea about the chain of events, but…

 • I could touch things! At moments of high lucidity, as well as having realistic visuals, I found I could touch walls, carpets, and handle things like doors, and it all felt real. Ive never had touch before, I thought I never would. It was really getting like being in another reality, not just ‘in my head’. I was constantly saying to myself ‘remember this’

 • I went flying! I didn’t go very high, just a little above my street. But the detail was quite amazing. It was nightime, and what I saw doesn’t correspond to real life, but it was a nice detailed town. Ive been flying before, quite vividly at times… but whenever ive tried it while lucid, all my visuals fade away and I wake up. I think i’ve kinda conquered that fear now… I actually did ‘wake up’ after flying, but it was just another FA, and things continued.

 • I found out my RC doesn’t work! What ive been doing is making a fist, and digging my fingers into the palms of my hands, feeling the uncomfortable pressure and pain from fingernails. The theory was that I would only feel this discomfort and pressure in RL. But i remember trying this last night while I was lucid, and found I was able to replicate these feelings very convincingly! Luckily, I already realised I was dreaming…

 • I met my spirit guides! Well, I tried to. At one point during lucidity, I decided to ask to meet them (I dunno why, but I just assumed theres more than one), I honestly and humbly asked for help… They appeared as various animals! (no doubt influenced form reading other people’s recent DJ entries  ) They were sitting with me around a big table, almost like a business meeting. There was a human-sized racoon, a pig, and some others. They did tell me stuff, some truth buried in with the weirdness not doubt. Unfortunately I only recall a few scattered words.

 • I really couldn’t wake up! Its like my ‘spirit guides’ wouldn’t let me. They kept coming back into the dream, and wanted me to answer something, solve something, I wish could remember! I had three or four FA’s, maybe more. Several times I remember reaching for the lamp by my bed, finding it wouldn’t turn on, and realising I was still dreaming. At one point, kinda freaked out, I actually wanted to wake up, just to be sure of where I was, and to start writing things down. I tried to picture myself in bed in RL, and i felt myself drifting out of the dreamscape, into blackness… but it felt like I was actually going further into the dreamworld and further away from waking up!

When I finally did wake up later on, it was nearly 6:00 am. I had only climbed into bed at 3:00 am, and all the lucid part of the dream seemed to last for over an hour in itself. I dont know why, but I do tend to get vivid and lucid stuff very early after going to sleep. Ive always read that I should be the other way around…

So, anyways, just felt like posting this and saying thanks to you guys on the forum. Lurking here has been a great help to me. I was beginning to give up on it all, now I think I can get there eventually, if I can build on this…
