Writing Communities

Does anyone know of a good, online writing community? Preferably fiction writing, but really anything not super professional.

Thanks in advance.

I usually visit NaNoWriMo. You don’t have to take the challenge to use the forums (though it’s a great challenge to take!)

Yeah, I tried last year and only got two weeks in…

It’s kinda stressful writing 1667 words per day. For me, anyway. I like to take my time with things and not force them.

But I’ll have to check out the forums; I never have before.

I only use the forums to procrastinate, so hopefully you like them! Haha. (And I think I wrote all 50k words over about 5 days. Yaaaaaay procrastination!)

Yves—

once upon a time the Garden here in LD4all thrived with people willing to give decent criticism (poetry and prose!). There were workshops and competitions to boot. If you’re up for building a writer’s community here, I suppose we just need a host for the party, really.

I would consider myself a fairly good writer in terms of essays, but I’m just breaking into the realm of fictional writing. The longest fictional piece I’ve completed was only about 6,500 words long. I’m working on a longer piece right now, but like I said, I’m basically a beginner.

However, I’m sure with the help of some of the more experienced writers here, such as
hunaynay, we could try to see what we could do.

You may give a shot to www.fictionpress.com (if you haven’t already), but honestly I did not find it very helpful. It depends very much on the person though. Other than that, nothing comes to my mind.

Well, I was looking for one too, and I just found this one : absolutewrite.com/forums/
I haven’t browsed through it very much yet, but it looks quite active, with lots of topics.
Hope that helps.

I too have been venturing into the world of fictional writing. I’ve been going at it for about a year and a half now, writing short stories on a blogger site I’ve created. I’m also attempting at my first novel. I would LOVE for LD4All to have some sort of writing community where I could get some opinions on my work (and give other people’s work my opinion).

As for publishing online (not sure if that’s what you are also aiming for), there’s a great site I plan to utilize fairly soon: https://www.duotrope.com/. It will basically find the right place for whatever you’re writing.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

Sounds like a few of us are interested in having a sort of writing community here on LD4all. If I made a writing critique/showcase thread in the Garden, do you think that it would get used?

Only one way to find out

Alright, I started the thread:

[community.ld4all.com/t/writing-discussion-showcase-critique/33481/1)

Dang. I was going to say that

But since I didn’t, I’ll just add to it and say they are very active. It’s kind of scary really. If you ever have a question about anything (grammar, technique, tropes) and you don’t have at least five responses in a day, I’ll shoot myself in the foot. (I was going to say two hours, which I think would be more accurate, but I rather like my foot  )

Edit: Oops, didn’t finish reading the thread.

I have nothing really to contribute to the topic, but I just wanted to post and say thanks for that link! It’s an amazing site!
