I just had my first LD last night. Funny thing is, I never did a reality check. I was about to go do something, and the place where I was to go was a long way away, so I thought, “Well, I’m in a dream, so I might as well run super-fast. Wait–dream!” I started running. “I’M LUCID!!” Realizing I was dreaming, I stopped running and tried to keep from jumping up and down from excitement. I then forgot about what I was doing and did what I wanted to: explored, yadda yadda. I think I lost lucidity or forgot the rest of the dream, but it was DEFINITELY lucid, because I remember saying something about being in a dream and being lucid.
It was totally on accident; I didn’t try MILD, WILD, VILD, or anything! Interesting note: A couple of days ago, I decided that when I had a LD, I’d be in a grasslands. That’s where I was!
All these techniques: MILD, WILD, etc are designed to get you in the proper frame of mind for LDing. There is no law that says you have to do them to become lucid. I’ve never done a technique to become lucid other than recognizing a dream sign.
Sometimes i have LD’s in nights when i don’t do almost any MILD (except: “When i see a dream i will remember it”) just because i want to get enough sleep before waking up. And i have no LD’s sometimes when i think i’m perfectly prepared to have one.
Sureal is right. The rule is: you still need to do techniques on regular basis, because it will increase your chance to have LD even in nights when you exceptionally do no technique before going to sleep.
Thanks, guys! (And gals, of course, if any are present! )
I included the part about not doing any techniques last night because I have been trying to have a WILD for the past three nights, and it seemed somewhat ironic that, on the night that I took a break, I would have a lucid dream.
It was amazing, though! I hadn’t realized that you could feel such vivid sensations when in a dream. I felt butterflies in my stomach when I realized I was lucid, wind when I ran… It was great! The best thing is, now that I’ve had one, I know that I can have more. (And even though I got that LD without using any particular technique, I just know that one of these days, I’m going get WILD to work! )
BTW, that was your first LD, so it wasn’t as realistic as they can get. I have my own way of improving realism, but I’m bored of typing it over and over .
