Happy 4th to the Americans!
Anyway, I read an article in a recent issue of Outside magazine that explained a simple method of meditating created by a man named Victor Davich. I tried it, and although I didn’t have a lucid dream, I fell asleep in 15 minutes (usually takes me about an hour or more- I’m a self-described insomniac) and had great dream recall the next day, remembering three or four dreams in pretty good detail. It’s really simple. Here’s what you do:
- Find a nice, quiet room. Set a timer for eight minutes, or look at a clock.
- Sit in a straight-backed chair with both feet on the ground and your hands in your lap. Keep a level gaze.
- Take a deep breath.
- Exhale slowly with your eyes closed. Do this again, releasing tension with the exhalation.
- Focus on your breathing, finding the place where you’re most aware of it (i.e. chest, nostrils, anywhere really).
- Stay focused on this point while you breath. If your mind gets distracted, shrug it off and keep going. Clear your mind.
Do this before bed if you have trouble sleeping or have some stress. Hopefully your mind will be cleared, leaving you to focus on LD’s. Good luck!
happy liberal successionists day ;o)
ah i like it!
i must give that a try,
eight minutes is great, but if you can spare the time why not 16? or 32? erm… half an hour that is as your skills increase, the benefits are phenominal.
i always had trouble with my mind skipping around when i first started meditating. to help with this i counted time relative to my breathing, 10 counts inhale, 15 counts exhale. this always helped to keep me focused, and the slow pace will help to relax you.
and to complicate things further, i like “wall staring meditation” or rather i like to affix my gaze at a certain spot on a wall, a candle, a star, a leaf, a push pin holding a poster up… anything, it helps me to have visual stimulation sometimes, focus on that one object, dont let anything aside from that spot and your breathing exist or cross your mind, do not analyze the object, just acknowledge it.
Sometimes I’m falling asleep pretty fast , sometimes I don’t. But mostly I fall asleep easily.
But If I meditate it’s harder for me to fall asleep, cause mostly I got kind of awake from meditation. And it is only harder to fall asleep. But maybe I’m just an expetion.
omg it worked !!! not lucid but it made me much more vivid . thanks for that kashmir
Focusing on your breath is a great technique. I don’t practise it with a clock and I’m laying in bed while doing it, but it’s one of my favourite relaxation methods.
Wow, I sort of forgot about this topic. Thanks for the feedback, and good luck, everybody!
