Afernoon WILD-attempt

So I decided to take an afternoon nap after dinner to try WILD again. I have been trying to have a WILD for more than a year now, and are slowly progressing forward. Today I seemed to pass what has been my main obstacle lately, the phase when my subconscious takes over my breathing. When I got to the point where my heartrate escalates and It feels like I struggle to breathe comfortably, I lose too much focus and pay too much attention to my breathing, as I try to breathe calmly and relax I just destroy my current WILD attempt.

But today I tried something new! Instead of taking breaths myself I kinda -held- my breath and it would almost come by itself, a bit irregular at first, but then steadier breaths until I did not think about it at all. But then my eyes started to spasm, and I mean REALLY spasm. I had to force my eyes shut as they felt like they would vibrate open, this is where I got confused. I just lie there, with vibrating eyes and my body feels like it exists partially. I experience no HI, sounds or anything. And after a while my eyes feel so strained that I give up and open them, look at the clock and see that 30 minutes already passed.

Any ideas on why this happens? Was I on the right track? What can I do better next time?

( I rolled my eyes before laying down in bed in order to counter something like this, but It seems it didn’t work. )

Congrats, Todey! I knew you could get past the breathing part :content: Simply giving up breathing seems to be a good idea.

I’m afraid I can’t help with the eye thing, but I’ve read people having that same problem… I’d guess it’s a relaxation thing or the same as breathing, find a way to ignore it? :eh:

I’m gonna try that holding breath thing. 30 minutes? I usually look at the clock and see hours passed! I guess I should cut my attempts down a bit.

Yeah, relaxing the eyes more might be important. I did actually come straight from a fps session on the computer, that might be the reason :shy: .

Xanthier: I used to lie for 1 hour before I even got close to feeling anything before. But then I started to make sure that I was 1. Tired before trying, and 2. Took time to relax completely with breathing exercises etc. That made me relax quicker and go to sleep easier.

Todey: What relaxation exercises do you do?

Well, I start by doing some simple stretching, neck, shoulders, arms, hands etc. Then I lie down and take a couple of deep breaths and clear out stressful thoughts and that ■■■■. By that time I’m usually pretty relaxed. After that I just try to go to sleep, making sure to keep my awareness awake by just -noticing- the tinnitus in my ears. By doing this I usually get into what I think is SP (spasming eyes and lose the feeling of my body partially) but from here I don’t get any further.

SP isn’t just losing partial feeling in your body, just so you know. I’ve had that as well, and the spasming eyes is REM, I get that but it never lasts more than a few seconds and it stops. True Sleep paralysis (SP) is when you try to move your body and can’t, it is often the final stage before HI and LD in WILD.

You’re stuck where I am. Your experiences are really similar to mine, hopefully we will both get there. I will let you know if I have any progress.

Yep you might be right, but still, if I can’t feel my body I can’t know If I’m able to move it or not  Same here, at the moment I think I need to find a better time to WILD during the mornings.

When you reach SP, you’ll know it  Well, unless you don’t feel it at all, which is what happens to me most of the times, I guess. Anyway, good luck guys, don’t give up!
