Am I on the right path on WILD?

This is my first time here so if I posted in the wrong section or anything wrong, I have to apologise on before hand!

Onto my question, I have attempted to do WILD lots of times now and I seem to get closer and closer on success but I’m not sure where I’m going wrong. I never seem to be able to keep conscious for some reason, no matter what I do. Last time I did it (after I woke up, stayed up for 1-2 hours, did something else and then went back to bed even though I wasn’t that tired) my head is as clear as if I were fully awake and my body was getting more and more into falling asleep. As usual, suddenly the last thing I remember I’m in some dream without realising I’m dreaming until I wake up; when I woke up I thought “Argh, it happened again!” It’s always a blank space in my memory from between almost falling asleep until in the middle of a dream. Any tips on what I’m doing wrong?
I do the counting, I constantly think of something and think loudly inside my head to stay focused, but maybe it will work after some more times?

Don’t keep your mind too focused. If you keep it awake, it won’t dream. You have to let the dream form. The tricky part is letting the dream happen while knowing that it’s happening. Also, if you’re doing a WBTB, I would suggest that you stay up no more than 30 minutes. That could mess with what part of your sleep cycle you were in if you stay up too long.

Thanks for your reply! I’ll try that the next time.
