Attached to my DJ

This is going to sound very silly!
Years ago I found this gorgeous 200 page thick black journal with a scrolled (fake) leather cover.
I never knew why I bought it, and didn’t want to waste it just writing silly things in it.
Then one day a friend introduced me to lucid dreaming, and I read in a lucid dreaming book I purchased that one should keep a DJ. My eyes fell on my beautiful journal that had been sitting on my nightstand for (literally) years! Now 6 months later I am nearing the end of my journal. I bought a new one, but it just isn’t the same. It’s also thick and black with smooth fake leather, but not nearly as nice or special.
Anyone else had a hard time letting go of their first journal? :eh:

Well, I’ve never had more than one, seeing as I’m still very new to this, but my current DJ is a very small notepad, lol! I doubt I’ll be hanging on to that for years

I would have this problem, but I would just buy the exact same kind lol. In fact I recently bought another DJ it is exactly the same as my old one only bigger, so I can fit more on one page.

When I had to use a new DJ…it just didn’t feel the same, but I slowly adapt to it, it was way more spacious.
Err… :shy: now I’m left with 2 pages in my DJ. Need to go hunting for a new one.

So you feel an emotional attatchment to it. I guess that means its a very special journal. Probley why it stood out, but dont worry your not loosing it youll still have it to read back on. Ive had these kind of expirances before. I had this salt crystal once which gave me very entersting dreams, and I lost it, I didnt realize how emotionaly, or spiritualy attatched I was to it, but I actualy allmost cried.

Hey ! I know how you feel ! I had the same problem with a gorgeous journal (nor DD). A very beautiful journal. I wrote in it silly things because the papers where kinda blue and not nice. Only the cover was nice. That’s the journal which had on the first page written the beautiful words of my signature (click my nick). I felt sorry for filling it with notes and work stuff, but my actual DJ is something hand-made (by me) and I like it even better  (that was more than a year ago) - the best part is that I never run out of paper . I don’t feel sorry anymore.

So why don’t you just cut some peaces of paper exactly the same size as your DJ, put them in your old DJ (glue them or don’t glue them) and continue it ?

Well, I think it would feel as if i were discarding my dreams that way… It’s a great idea though. But you are right, I will always keep it, and occasionally read it again. When I’m really old with one foot in the grave, I’ll have this humongous stack of DJs that someone might end up reading, and declare me insane! haha

Insane ? Why ? :meh:

I just make notes on my iPhone when I first wake up and then fully type my dreams up into a Word file in the evening after work, so I don’t think there is any chance of me becoming attached to mine.

I just bought the fourth one and it’s still the same problem. It 's always very difficult to get used to the new one. But with time (and LDs  ) you’ll like the new one just as well

I’m still only on my first one, but it’ll be full in about a month and a half I think. I’m planning on keeping all of my DJ’s… I mean, dreams are such immaterial things, so I think it’s interesting to have physical evidence of them. To get rid of an old DJ would be to destroy any physical evidence of their existence. Since dreaming is something I have a great passion for, I think it’ll be tough for me to move onto a new DJ with nothing in it. But, the upside is that my old DJ will be there if I ever want to read through it again.

Wow… I haven’t even thought of this before. I’m still on my first DJ, about halfway through it, and I kind of regret not making use of all of the space I have (like writing on the backs of the pages), but at the same time, I like making it all look organized.

While my DJ will still last me a while longer, I do think it will be a bit hard making a change. However, I think, instead of choosing to buy a replica of my DJ (or near-replica), I think it may even be a better idea to buy a different, unique journal each time it will be renewed. Y’know? To kind of make each journal special and unique.
Now that I think of it, I also wonder where I will keep my older DJ’s afterward? Somewhere with easy-access I suppose, but still someplace special for them? I haven’t though this out. :content:

that’s interesting bejezt, I keep my 4 DJs always together. So actually my dream journal is a pile of dream journals :content:
it never even crossed my mind to separate the 3 old ones and store them somewhere else.

Bejezt thats a brilliant idea! It kind of reminds me of a few films, where the main character finds a stack of old envelopes, journals, valuables…etc underneath the attic floorboards and then yadda yada…

In between your mattresses :peek: haha first thing that came to mind.

I got myself a new DJ! :content: I even bought a new pen! The reason I bought the pen was cause it has the quote “In my dream” written on it.

get a new journal and it will become special, because it is yours! I completely understand what you said about having that empty journal on your shelf for years…sometimes I buy sweaters or whatever that I own for a long time before ever wearing. it’s sort of like you buy it, and you have to let it become yours before you use it…so buy a new journal now, knowing that it’s still going to be some time before you use it (assuming you still have empty pages in your current journal). then after you start using your new one, it will become special–perhaps moreso than the current one!

Well said dntrecords! Moreso than the simple cover and pages - it’s the content that makes our DJ special. ^^

I eased the transition by keeping the old one under the new one, by the bedside. This way it wasn’t that clean cut, and it was partially as I was still writing in it :content: They weren’t that nice still, only single-coloured copybook, so either transition to the new one or to the digital format wasn’t that hard
