I have only been trying to get a lucid dream for a little while now, and 2 nights ago, i thought i recognized the effects of WILD. I was lying in my bed and i started hearing voices and i felt like i was running…unfortunately, i didn’t recognize it for what it was. Last night, i did the same thing, but despite the fact i felt the same things(roughly), i could not fall asleep until i stopped trying to lucid dream. can anyone help me out?
If this keeps on happening whenever you are attempting WILD perhaps you could try another method like FILD or MILD. (If you don’t know what FILD is click on my signature where it says “The Best Technique” )
if trying to LD is ruining your sleep pattern, you should probably switch to another technique
WILD is a technique that may easily keep you up for hours n end without much results, as it is a fairly advanced technique, so as KT4all said, try MILD, or DILD or any other technique discussed on the forum
When I started out with LDing I was quite excited about it, so I spent several nights trying to do WILD and could barely sleep anymore at all.
However, I then luckily had some DILDs and so I became much more relaxed and stopped the frequent WILD attempts when going to sleep. Instead, I focused on autosuggestion for about half an hour or so and then letting it go and falling asleep normally. This is also what I would recommend to other people starting out.
I later got back to practicing WILD in the morning, which for me works much better anyway. And if you cannot sleep afterwards, well, you can just get up, no harm done.
Don’t let your LD techniques get in the way of you being able to sleep. You have to sleep before you can dream.
wake and bake is the best technique
When I first attempted lucid dreaming I had the same problem especially with the WBTB method. WILD also gave me problems with falling asleep which is one of the reasons I abondoned it. In time however it got easier to sleep.
My advice is to stay away from WBTB and WILD when trying to get lucid and stick with MILD which is usually a more sleep friendly method.
Good Luck,

I’ve personally never attempted WILD, it just strikes me as a bit too freaky, but it might help you to do some exercise (such as running) an hour or two before you go to bed, so you are tired when you go to sleep. This also is good for you, even if it doesn’t make you tired.
I know I personally have troubles going to sleep at all if I try to force myself. If it’s hurting your sleep cycles, though, try something less intensive.
WILD is by far one of the most successful techs out there, Stephen. L used this tech to acheive lucidity at will. I have used it for the same purposes but be warned.
At first it can and will kill your sleep.
As you are already experienceing. The trick i used to get past this stage was to learn to relax my body completly first by using the point method, then quite the mind completly, then think without words think in actions and pictures, this takes work but its a great way to spark HI and move into the dream world.
Do not focus on your body at all during this stage, by dong so this will keep you awake, you need to forget about your body and focus on something else, otherwise you will stay awake.
for a wild to work you need to be able to wait to fall into REM. the first cycle during the night, it can take just over an hour, depending on where your brain waves are at. If you are already sleepy and near the dream state, ie delta to Theta, you will be able to use wild easily as you will not have to wait so long. This is why WB2B method is such a good tool for lucidity.
My advice with WILD would be this. Dont do it as soon as you go to bed, at least not to start with. Use the WB2B method combined with MILD and WILD, this will increase your chances of having a lucid and using WILD right. Dont get too excited and try not to focus on your body after it is compleatly relaxed.
Keep at it, it took me about 2 months to get good at it, and it was a shit 2 months, bad sleeps and lack of lucids, but after it the rewards were worth it.
But in saying that, that was a long time ago and i am a cronic bad sleeper, so all that work, now stress is back, has gone out the window.
Good luck, let me know how you go
this is very interesting stuff, im having the same problems, glad I came across this!
Timeless, have you ever done a successful WILD which brought you into an OBE because right now I am researching for a perfect induction tech. for OBEs and I know that WILD sometimes result in OBEs.
Thanks,
The Luciddator
Well, it says WILD, not WIOBE
…for the good reason that OBE is just a special form of LD where everything looks particularly like the real thing (and the dreamer experiences to be outside of a body which looks like their own).
