I have trouble WILDing. Either I’m too tired and I fall asleep or I’m too awake and can’t seem to get past a certain stage.
But when I’m closer to sleep, I usually get scenes or images flickering through my head/across my eyes quickly. I concentrated on one that stayed for longer than most after waking up from a dream and almost got into a DEILD (started hearing a constant electronic noise and felt like I was being sucked down a tube, but woke up because I lost concentration and started thinking about everything I was going to do). So I’m wondering if there’s a way I can make that happen more often, when I’m trying to WILD rather than accidentally DEILDing.
Also, can I move my eyes around while I’m trying to WILD? Or do I have to keep them still too?
If you get these “scenes” it can signal that you are close to a WILD. This means that the SP phase could be “skipped.” Sleep paralysis isn’t always a necessary step when doing WILD; it varies from person to person. Sometimes people get to these “images” and use them to help them WILD.
Typically, if you are starting to get these images, it means there is a dream forming.
If you maintain your awareness but don’t focus on the scene itself – sort of let it play itself out – this should either carry you into HH, or a full-blown WILD. Again this varies from person to person and the WILD technique is not written in stone, there are no steps that will ALWAYS flow chronologically. I don’t know the extent of the images you’re referring to, so it’s hard to say if this is a step in a WILD attempt.
As far as I know, you can move your eyes during WILD, just don’t focus on the images (don’t give them thought) or you may be too aware of your body or Waking Life. Some have said they can’t move their eyes due to Sleep Paralysis, others say that’s the only part of their body they can move. But simply put, you can move your eyes during a WILD. If you kept your eyes still that’d get really uncomfortable!..
And, of course, you’d ruin your WILD attempt because you’re focusing too much of your body instead of letting the WILD “sink over you.”
Thanks for the info. Trying not to move my eyes at all was rather difficult. It’s also good to know that I’m probably at least CLOSE to WILDing. Still need to work on a way to stay aware though. Even counting puts me to sleep.
Sleep paralysis IS in fact necessary, as it’s a crucial part of the REM-Sleep. It’s just not always necessary to FEEL it, if that’s what you meant. Although, it’s still there, preventing you from moving during your dreams .
