My name is Lucas, and I’m from Marseille. Recently, I’ve wanted to relearn lucid dreaming. I had already experienced lucid dreams naturally before. I had started learning about it, but I was too impatient, and when I couldn’t do it anymore, I got discouraged and eventually gave up.
Now I really want to start again seriously and build a routine. I’ve already begun: I’m doing reality checks, writing my dreams in a notebook, and immersing myself in the subject.
However, since I stopped practicing before, I haven’t been paying much attention to my dreams. And now that I’ve started again, I feel like my dreams are very empty in terms of sensations. They are short, sometimes very brief, and I have trouble remembering them.
I was also wondering if consuming THC significantly affects the quality of dreams. Should I stop smoking before going to sleep, during the night, or stop smoking altogether if I really want to fully commit to this journey?
We showed that THC/CBD decreased total sleep time (-24.5 min, p = 0.05, d = -0.5) with no change in wake after sleep onset (+10.7 min, p > 0.05) compared to placebo. THC/CBD also significantly decreased time spent in REM sleep (-33.9 min, p < 0.001, d = -1.5) and increased latency to REM sleep (+65.6 min, p = 0.008, d = 0.7).
From my experience, quality dreaming requires quite strict sleep hygiene and changing day habits that influence biochemistry. I already stopped drinking alcohol and coffee, and with every step I had a visible improvement in terms of increased dreaming quality.
Try abstaining from substances like weed and observe what happens to your dreams. People report that their (temporary) vividness skyrockets.
