So last night I tried to LD for maybe the fifth or sixth time. I did the relaxation with the flexing your feet and moving up and all of that, and the one with the cup of water, and counting my breath while walking down stairs. I remember at one point I started hearing noises and then a very high pitched sound. I don’t really know how to describe the noises, other than a flanging sound (for those of you who play guitar) and chimes. After about maybe a minute of that getting more definite and more complex, I heard the high pitched ring. Then it felt as if I was soaring into the air, and everything was getting darker. Waaaay darker. I eventually fell asleep and had a dream. I woke up after it, but all I could recall was that I was at a closed QuikTrip. Then I fell asleep and dreamed again, waking only to remember watching my sister eating waffles.
Am I almost there? And do you have any tips? I’m new here, as you can see, so if this is in the wrong spot then just do whatever you guys do… But any help would be greatly appreciated.
They will come. Be patient and don’t try too hard. If you do reality checks throughout the day, everyday, and record your normal dreams each night to improve your recall you will be dreaming lucidly soon enough.
It’s also good to have a plan for when you feel like you’re coming out of your dream. When I feel like I’m coming out of the dream I’ll spin as fast as i can, and that usually keeps me in the dream or moves me into another dream.
A shortcut to LDing is to short yourself on sleep one night (get about 3-4 hours of sleep), take a late morning or early afternoon nap. Because you shorted yourself REM sleep the night before your brain will try to make up for it by putting you into REM (dreaming sleep) right away. If you’re ready for it, this is a great way to set yourself up for your first lucid dream.
Umbra, it took me a couple weeks of doing the work (dream log, reality checks, reading up on LDs) before I had my first one. It’s most effective to do the work and step back and take a relaxed approach to this.
I also recommend the book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge
I always wake 3 hours or so before I actually get out of bed for the day. The last three hours of sleep are when I have most of my LD’s.
I joined this site just a week or so ago and have learned so much! In the past my LD’s only happened every so often just out of shear luck.
What I do is through out the day I ask myself if I’m dreaming. Probably 10 times a day. I also do RC, usually by looking at a clock or reading what ever happens to be laying around. Last night I had a LD I was walking really fast to get some where and thought to myself if this was a dream I could fly. So, I said what the hell I’ll give it a shot and started to fly. I was in shock I remember thinking everything looks so normal I can’t believe I’m dreaming. I did another RC with a clock in the same dream, and it worked.
Also the looking at your hands RC really worked for me as well.
Good Luck
Sweet Dreams
You were extremely close! You must have let your conscious mind slip at the last moment. To prevent this, try imagining yourself grabbing a rope and pulling yourself up out of your body, and grabbing on to an object in your HI.
