Dream Journal vs. Voice Logs

Hey, I used to keep a journal a long time ago, but I can never read my writing when I am later awake, so I then turned to going to my computer and typing it, but i found i missed out on a lot of detail, because I forget most of the stuff by the time i get to my computer and turn it on.

I then turned to a voice recorder, but it jus doesnt seem to be helping my dream recall, i remembered my dreams much better when I wrote them down.

I know combining the voice recorder with the typing seems like the best idea, but I lead a very busy life, and i often only have 30 mins - 1hour before i have to go to work in the morning. Does anyone have some time-saving tips that wouldnt ruin my recall?

thanks

I have a friend that uses a portable recorder of some sort to record her dreams, she records everything she recalls while getting ready and driving to work and types it later.

What works for me is:

  1. I lie in bed, and really remember the details of my dreams… I spend maybe 5 - 10 mins (max) doing this.

  2. Make short notes about the dreams on a piece of paper next to my bed (or in your DJ… wherever… just keep it handy)… maybe another 5 mins.

  3. Now… this probably won’t work for everyone… but at work, I pretend I am typing up some presentation or something… but really I am just typing up my dreams. I try to always get it done by midday, otherwise I will start to forget a lot of details. Having the notes still helps, and its just takes practice with the level of detail you need to trigger those memories.

But to sum up, keeping a journal is important, and making the effort to record ‘something’ is still alot better than recording nothing at all.
