Dream Recall Difficulties

Hi all! The reason I am posting this is not because I can’t recall my dreams, but rather, it’s because I can’t bring myself to record my dreams. This happens almost every night. I place a mini-notebook and pen by the side of my bed everytime I go to sleep at night. When I wake up in the middle of the night after having a dream, I can recall the dream almost perfectly. However, the problem with me is that I’m feeling so very tired and sleepy that I do not want to pen down my dream in the notebook. So, I just go back to sleep without writing down anything about the dream. When I wake up in the morning, I can only remember fragments of the dream, and, on some occasions, I even totally forgot the dream.

I would deeply appreciate it if anyone would give me some suggestions on how I should counter this problem. Thanks!

Regards,
Kweek

You need the motivation to do it. Think about the positives of keeping a record of your dreams. You can even cut down the writing by just using keywords. Keeping dream notes shouldn’t be a chore.

If you started an online dream journal on the forum it may make the effort of writing in the night worthwhile. It’s fun to share dreams here and everyone tends to get a small group that follow their Dj and read their dreams.

In addition to moogle’s advice, I’d also suggest that you make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep. That way you won’t be quite so tired when you awaken.

If you have a computer in your bedroom, try typing your dream up in Wordpad, Notepad, or some other word processing software, instead of writing it out by hand (which can be somewhat laborious if it’s a particularly lengthy dream).

Or you can avoid the writing process altogether, and use a tape recorder to record your dreams.

Just say it out loud! :content: When you wake up from a dream, describe it all out loud. Tell yourself what it was about in detail (Or just keywords if it’s nothing that important). Remembering your first dream after having two or three more is often just as hard as remembering what you were thinking at 4:19 PM yesterday. What we experience while awake is much, much easier to remember. By saying it all out loud you’re basically making a backup copy in another part of your memory. Now, when you ask yourself what the dream was about you’ll remember just what you said when you woke up.

I mean, this should be written into the Lucid Dreaming Guide on the site or something. I never have any problem recalling my dreams when doing this.
