Effects of control on dream realism

Generally, I don’t try to have a lot of control in my LD’s… beside chosing the direction where I want to fly towards! Recently, I’ve tried twice to experience an enhanced control on the dream environment, by just thinking it’s a dream then I can do what I want. I worked easily yet it has lead to a curious problem: I found that it wasn’t realistic at all.

First, it looks like the results of direct control attempts are a little postponed. My feeling is, if the action sounds like natural and we are doing it whithout even thinking, then there is a time continuity. Now if it looks like anti-natural (for instance shooting down a plane with a papaya - I did that in my last LD  ) then the dream shows ellipses, zooms, little postponements, we often have to overcontrol and correct again and again what happens, and even do some mental adjustments, as if we were saying to ourselves: “let’s say it happened like I wanted”, etc. I’ve the feeling we are more in the thought of the event than in the event itself, and the dream environment is far less realistic.

Did you face this problem and what do you think about ?

thats when i first started.i couldnt think what was going on.i think of it at normal and somewhat annoying cause people know there first time having an LD. but its really annoying when you cant control them and everything goes crazy.then you have to make the ajustments to fix which makes it less lucid and doesnt feel real at all.And eventually have an FA

I’m unsure we are talking about the same thing. I certainly haven’t explained clearly my point of view. I was talking about “total” control, when you know you can modify anything easily cause you deeply feel it’s a dream - and you choose to modify things directly. My example was certainly not good: say, you can destroy buildings, make objects appear or disappear, etc.

I don’t have noticed it may happen in other cases.

Less lucid? :eh: You mean less vivid?
