Hai dreamers,
Tonight something really weird happened while trying to DEILD.
I woke up and began the procedure as usual (nothing to do there really, just stay still hehe ). I kept my eyes closed, but I was certain it was night time - I had no light coming through my eyelids and I didn’t hear anyone doing anything (family).
After about a few minutes I could feel sleep paralysis, my body went numb and I started to breathe heavier than usual. Soon enough, auditory hallucinations (HH) “kicked in”. There was no HI, just the sounds. I experienced these sounds for the first time. At first it was quite quiet, but it gradually built up in volume. The sound reminded me of a “mixture” of a train passing by, some weird deep monster breathing and really loud tinnitus sounds (tinnitus sounds like a really high pitched tone, for those who don’t know).
Everything I’ve described above lasted for about 5 minutes. It couldn’t be more!
Somehow my eyes opened themselves and what do I see? It’s morning and the sun has risen!
I did a mental RC at first (trying to summon something or float up) and then a physical RC. I wasn’t dreaming and decided to go on with my day. I woke up 2 hours earlier than I usually do.
Questions:
a) How did time pass so fast? Or why did the feeling of time passing so fast happen?
b) Were the sounds normal? Describe your auditory hallucinations.
That’s it!
Thanks for reading and please
leave me a (helpful :3) reply below.
You said you are sure it was night time. So I think,
a) Your time-feeling while experiencing the HS was a different one than IRL, as it can be also different in dreams (like you dreamt about a whole day and you were asleep for only 20 minutes). Besides this it could be that you simply dozed off and woke up later without remembering it.
b) HH are different for everyone. Yours seems to be a bit similar to mine (though I only had them two times). The first time, I heard music, nothing I know IRL and it got that loud that I kicked myself out of my WILD attempt The second time was like you are standing next to some blasters at a party and you hear/feel the bass booming. But it was inside my head and got terrible loud. Fortunately it stopped after 20 seconds or so
Hope I could help you
There have been reports of people trying to WILD, who, after opening their eyes noticed that huge amounts of time had passed, despite the fact, that the whole “experience” they had lasted only a few minutes in their minds. It is not much different from your attempt.
I believe it’s called “The Black Hole” effect. It may happen somewhere in the HI/SP state as a result of a failed WILD attempt. In your mind, it may seem that only a few minutes have passed, when in reality it may range anywhere from 30-120 minutes.
This is a short article I’ve found in the Lucid Wiki: lucid.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Hole_Effect
That sounds almost like meditation (from what I’ve heard of meditation, anyway; don’t quote me on that ) Very interesting though, especially after the study confirming that dream time is around the same as normal time.
Thanks for the reply, Paulius.
This black hole effect seems to be what happened and is an interesting phenomenon.
If my description is enough and if it is possible, then please do explain how did I fail? Did I just fall into a light sleep and had a feeling of time passing fast?
Thank you.
I can’t tell what has caused the BHE as it is still a little researched topic. I suppose it’s caused by falling asleep. The reports of this are wery few, so I think it’s a rare thing to experience.
I don’t see any flaws in your WILD, so I can’t say what caused you to fall asleep. Maybe you did your WILD at a wrong time? As you probably know, it’s best to do after 4,5 - 6 hours of sleep.
I’ve never experienced this phenomenon myself either, so I can’t tell anything more.
