Fighting Nightmares

Hello everybody :content: I’m new here and am already full o’ questions!! But first, recently I had a nightmare that I kinda became lucid in… I think. I know it was a dream, or more like a nightmare I mean I was being chased by a really really really really big bear that, well maybe not a bear since bears aren’t scaly and they don’t have eyes that glow bright red. But my brain was thinking of it as a bear :eh: well anyways it was chasing me and it seemed to just charge through the trees without breaking them. It was like it was a ghost but it could hit me? So I kept running and running but I wanted to try stopping the bear. But I couldn’t stop it no matter how hard I thought to have it vanish or catch on fire or just turn around and leave me alone!! And then I saw myself in third-person as the bear ate me  and it looked really disgusting because it kinda mauled me to bits before eating me. So how do I beat this bear or any other nightmare creature thing?

Wow, you were already trying to take control!

Usually: don’t try to beat it as in destroying it (according to a couple of LD researchers like Tholey and some others), because it’s part of your subconscious = part of yourself.

Stop running, wait for the bear, ask him/it what he wants and why he’s here.

My sympathy for the bear mauling you! I had a dream once where some woman was mauled by a cow, and that was really disgusting.

Does the bear turn up in your dreams often?

agree with yenia about asking the bear stuff.
I had similar thing going on 2 nights ago where I and someone else was being chased by a predator type hunter. All I could do was run and hide, so for my whole dream I managed to run and hide from it and it never got me… but hiding all the time isnt cool…
I should confront it if i see it again.

The bear sounds like it represents something quite powerful, maybe an idea, conflict or an aspect of your personality? You could try to analyse this semi dream/LD before deciding what course of action to take, that would make it easier to confront if it ever happens again.

Well. If you become lucid you should realise that there is no real danger. And so you can calm down, if you can do that, the bear will be no more than perhaps annoying. Anyway, when you stop being afraid, the problem is already solved.
However if the bear is some unconscious issue that needs to be dealt with then you should try something like what has been suggested already.
I’d like to add a suggestion, if the bear is not talkative try to get on it’s back and ride it around, could at least be fun.
