you do have a name but that was ginin to you by your parents or guardians. Try to go into your mind and find your true name such as finding a alter and placing your hands on it and if you think about your real name it should apear on the alter.
I hear that a lot because people can to harmful things toward you using it or just mess with your mind at the very least. If you know your true name keep it private.
I don’t see why everyone says to keep it private, though. A name is just a name. A rose by any other name is still a rose. Draginvry, VeryGnawty, it is all the same.
A name only has as much power as you give it. If you let other people use your name against you, then they will. If you don’t, they can’t.
There’s an ancient Egyptian myth about Isis gaining power over the Sun God by learning his secret (true?) name. There are probably other myths and stories playing on that idea, that to name something is part of controlling it.
In Biblical Hebrew culture, it was believed that by knowing someone’s name, you gained a handle on that person - IE: if you call that name, then the person will almost involuntarily react unless they are expecting it. Just an interesting sidenote.
I know of a religion that gives sacred names to their life-long and worthy members. The names this religion gives to it’s members are NOT to be shared with anyone, under ANY circumstances. They believe they need to know their “true name” for the next life to get into a certain kingdom. I decided not to share the name of the religion, because I am a member of it and I don’t want to draw any negative or blasphemous attention to it.
Hmm sounds interesting. I’m gonna have to try this.
It kinda reminds me of a book I read every now and then. “how to uncover your past lives” by Ted Andrews
It explains to you how to do it using differant forms of meditation.
If anyone knows your true name it’s supposed to grant them power over you. But then, they would need to know how to use that power. I doubt few in this day and age do. So you’re not committed to insant doom by just telling someone…only if the person you tell is not really a friend or unreliable and passes the information on.
The idea is common in relegions such as kabbalah etc, although its true origin is much older. the basic premise is that all of reality is made up of a giant weave of patterns, with everything in creation having its own pattern. The name of an object refers directly to it’s pattern, so by using the name, you are directly citing and effecting the pattern. And so people can use names to affect the things they refer to, like a form of sympathetic magic.
Supposedly.
