The site says that, like ven0m said, lying on your back is best, but I have found that it really doesn’t matter. If it is comfortable, then it should work.
I have a question as well. I realized that I am getting to the fully formed images stage when I let my mind wander a bit, but when I do realize that, I snap out of the random train of thought and the pictures go away. Any way to prevent this from happening? I’m pretty sure I’m getting somewhere, because I can do this pretty quickly by now.

When you are near enought to being asleep , you can “step into” the scene (that how i do it … hope that makes sense for you too )

You know that thing that happens when you try to get lucid when you started getting numb feelings and stuff. How close is that to having a LD and does that happen only with WILD
It’s called sleep paralysis, although “numb” is not sleep paralysis, but some steps before
It happens every night, but you don’t remark it, as your mind is already asleep.

I think it would be pretty hard to “step into the dream” because your mind knows you are in sleep paralysis. What really happens is that you just let everything flow along while being aware and your body will automaically step in, jump, fly, or swim into the dream. You could also imagine yourself going into the dream with the above methods. Imagination is an important key in WILDs.

time. you can either attempt WILD during a nap, or accompanied with WBTB (5 or 6 1/2 hours after first falling asleep. I would recomend during a nap if you have trouble clearing your mind early in the morning, but it’s a personal preference.

lay down and relax. Tense every muscle in your body while breathing deeply. inhale and tense. hold. exhale and feel your muscles release all the tension built up. Like meditation, this step requires you to calm your mind and breathe.

Imagine you are on a beach, sitting at the edge of the surf. as you breathe out, imagine you draw a 1 in the sand. When you breathe in, the water comes and washes it away. Breathe in, 2, breathe out. Breathe in, 3, breathe out. Continue this technique as long as you can. When you start to feel like you are losing focus, or if you find this difficult to concentrate on, you can also just focus on and count your breaths, but I find it easiest to visualize a scene.
4.just relax and breathe. in, out, in out. Eventually your body will get very heavy and behind your eye-lids you will start to see colorful patterns. Don’t anticipate this or wait for it, just let it happen.This is HI. Go with it, let it be, don’t focus on the visions too much.

At this point you should eventually start experiencing SP. This can frighten a lot of people, but don’t worry, it’s all part of the sleeping process. Just breathe. Never forget to breathe. If you start to wander in your thoughts, just gently (and that’s the key word) bring yourself back to breathing.

I’m a bit scared about the hypnagogic stuff when using WILD. I haven’t actually tried yet (well, once, but I was too fidgety), but I’d probably force myself awake if the sound&vision stuff is as bad as it sounds

Not rare, but probably not as bad as it sounds.
As for me, I’ve never successfully had a WILD since joining (or in my whole life, FTM).
Has anyone got any ideas for me?
My situation:
I go to bed every night (don’t mention WBTB) and repeat to myself a daily-varying mantra. Then I stay perfectly still for a long, LONG time (1hr+), then… fall asleep
Well, I would suggest listening to music. It should keep you awake, and if you concentrate on listening to it, then you should abandon thoughts that are making your body stay awake when you are trying to fall asleep.
As for staying up for an hour, I would suggest just keep at it. You should eventually be able to control your sleep to a slight degree that will lower that time spent staying still. For example, I started staying up for an hour with no results, and now I am at around half that time seeing the full images, no farther though, which leads me to my question.
What in the world do you do with them? Just watch em until you find yourself standing inside of it, or what? I’m pretty sure that this is my last hurdle to get over, and then I may be able to pull this off.
And, I know you said don’t mention WBTB, but it may help you a lot. If you have time, just try to get some practice in when you wake up normally, which shouldn’t be too hard to do on a weekend in the summer…
Hey ive tried WILD a couple times now using the WBTB with it and i cant get past a certain point:
I get to where im very relaxed and my body feels VERY numb and really hard to move, i can see some flashing colors like when you push your fingers on your eyes…But i cant get any further.

Hey, I’m new on the forum (and to LD’s).
I tried WILD this afternoon and the first few steps went amazingly fast. I just layed on my bed, on my back, arms besides my body. Stretched my muscles a bit and began counting. 1 I’m dreaming, 2 I’m dreaming (in Dutch btw), etc. When I was at 60 I realized I still had chewing gum in my mouth.
When I started over I was at 40 ,or something like that, and the red (that you see when you close your eyes when it’s light) turned to white in a flash. I got minor convulsions and my body felt tingly. Then I stopped because I got too excited, my heart was beating too fast and I became distracted by sounds from outside.
I want to know if this was really the beginning of a WILD.

I created my account last year but i wanst very active on this forum… i was more like a passie reader than a writer but now that i am restarting my LD experiments, ill try to be around here often. I guess a forum like this and talking about LDs can be a quite useful tool, am i right?
Well, a few weeks ago i reactivated my DJ to get a better dream recall, but so far it didnt quite work out… i guess because i was sick… i was tired all day but when it came to my normal sleep at night i could only get into a vey light sleep…
today i tried a combination of WBTB and WILD. When i tried WILD a year ago, i t took me a pretty long time get to the point of “numbness” but today everything went very well i tried three times, the first two were only slight tingling and numbing sensations, but the third time was pretty cool. i rolled over to start again and was completely relaxed due to the first two tries, so i slipped into a dream very quickly. i was talking to my parents and suddelny i remembered that i was trying to WILD so i stood up and clearly could feel that i was moving my dream body while my real one was still in bed… i was in a dark room so i tried to get into another scenario, but i guess this was a bad idea. i heard a buzzing noise and the tingly sensation was getting really intense. i thought the noise would come from a machine in my bedroom but it was part of the SP… so i woke up, because i was not able to fully let my dream come to existance… now i cant decide whether the SP sensations were part of my dream or not. its quite confusing because i did not really WILD but sort of a failed WILD nearly safed by a MILD ^^
but for my first attempt in a year… that was good Have you guys got any ideas what i could do better? and how long should i sleep before getting up for WBTB?

i dont get it…can i try it in a nap…? or do i need to make wbtb method…?..or can i make it when i wake up? (normally)…i need help on this…

im not sure but i think you can use it anytime. just think there’s better odds to combine it with WBTB… not 100% sure on this though since I spent 20 mins counting to 500 and saying "i am dreaming’ only to have no lucid dream… (but later on in the morning i was awoken early and combined the WILD with the WBTB and counted to 150 saying that line)…had 2 lucid dreams from 8:32-10:00
The way you are using your Mantra would probably qualify more as auto-suggestion than WILD. So for it to work, you should have something related to Lucid dreaming in it. The idea of WILD and using a mantra to WILD would be, you would focus on the mantra to keep yourself aware as you fall asleep. It’s possible that you are lying there for a long period of time, because you are trying too hard to fall asleep. Perhaps if you focus on relaxing instead you might have more luck. If you can’t/won’t use WBTB the next best thing would be trying in afternoon naps.
There have been a couple of techniques I’ve heard about for entering HI. One of them is to just watch them until you find yourself in them, another that I found interesting was to try and imagine yourself in the scene. The person who did it focused on the sounds of the fish-tank that was in their HI I believe.
At this stage I think it’s important to relax. You have to let the images form and flow keeping yourself calm. In time stronger more complete images will likely develop. The swirling colours may transform into them, but for me they sometimes seem to disappear before the stronger images come.
That sounds a little odd and more like a Myclonic jerk than HI to me. These seem to happen when people are in a relaxed state, they aren’t a cause for concern, but they aren’t WILD either. They do show that you were in a good relaxed state though.
When you are using WBTB you usually sleep 4.5 or 6 hours and get up for around half-an-hour. There is no harm in experimenting though, you might find a time that suits you better.
You can try WILD whenever you like, but it is considered to be much harder in the evenings. The best time would be during WBTB, the next best in a nap. You can try it immediately after waking since you will be relaxed from having being asleep, there are also other things you can try such as chaining in the morning when you can go back to sleep.
