Forgetting a Lucid Dream?

Hi. I’m wondering if it’s possible to forget an LD. I have the strange feeling that I had an LD yesterday night, but I don’t remember any dreams.

Yes it is possible sadly…its like any other deam, i HATE that feeling but it shows your getting really close!!!

The best thing to do to avoid this is to build up your dream recall. Make sure to write down details of every dream into your dream journal asap after waking up. Remember, good recall is the key to vivid LD’s

You right, latley I was getting lazy writing detailed information in my DJ.
and instead of 2 LDs in a week I have “just” one.

Hmm, even though you can forget an LD its not so likely since LD’s are easier to remember :cool_laugh:

Yup. I woke up one morning with the feeling that i had an LD but i didn’t remember any. Then some minutes later i remembered it. The same have happen without the feeling in the morning.

The fact that most LDs end with you waking up means that you’re unlikely to forget them.
I still don’t understand memories. Thinking about LDs doesn’t help.
If you forget an LD, you basically think it wasn’t worth having it at all. But the fun of LDs isn’t in remembering them after you’ve had them.
It’s the same when you get really drunk and forget the night you had. It makes it seem worthless the day after, but you enjoyed it at the time so surely it wasn’t worthless.

The only way I can make sense of it, is to think that every new day(/whatever time period you like) we become a slightly different person (which is true because our memories change). If we have a great experience and then forget it, it still benefited that previous version of ourself that enjoyed it, but to the present version of ourself it was worthless because we do not retain the memory.

Sorry for the little digression there, but I’m just endlessly fascinated by memory and LDs often work into that fascination.

I know what you mean. I often remember that I’ve had a fun dream/LD but only remembering like 1 second of it but i still when i had it i knew i had fun

reading this i couldn’t help but feel how important it is for me to be able to remember my dreams both normal and lucid.
with out recall and reflection an experience is so pointless.

Well, I never forgot a fully lucid dream.
It’s like real life.

But, those muddy ones can be forgotten.

I forgot an ld last night. I woke up anoyyed thinking it was another day without any dreams. However as I was eating breakfast I remember a dream I had about me getting shouted at for not learning my lines in a drama class. I later had was thinking about it again and sort of had a feeling that I had an ld. Later today I have remembered abit about it (I remember getting excited and rubbing my hands) and are pretty sure I had one last night.

I almost forgot an LD from this night  but when I know that I had an LD it will reform in my brain.

My point with this thread is that thinking of a lucid thing you did might remind you what you did dream of

It is easy to forget LDs, just like NDs. Howewer, it’s harder to forget the feeling that you had a LD tonight. The best way to remember dreams is by using a dream journal. That way your recall will be much better

mhm, i can’t say i’ve ever completely forgotten an LD, although there are a few i don’t remember much of, but that’s partially because i didn’t write them down, and they happened a long time ago(like between a year and 2 years ago)

I think it also depends on how much importance you put in them. If you felt your dream was “Meh.” or not something special, you’re more likely to forget it ND or LD.
