getting closer?

over the past few nights i have been trying to wild, so far what i get is, after about 15 minutes i get this tingly sensation in my hands, sometimes after a while the feeling becomes more intense and i begin to see things such as swirling white lines or stars, thes e images are usually very faint and will go away after a while. i thought that the images were supposed to get clearer? after about half an hour i usually stop trying as i seem to lose the feelings and the images. i think this may be because my heart starts to beat faster when i get that feeling. is there anything i can do to help the images and feelings stay? am i getting close?

That sensation in your hands… is it like countless tiny needles entering your skin at the same time, or is it more like a smooth feeling of numbness? If it’s the first option, then it might have been the result of a decreased blood flow, possibly because of a squeezed blood vessel. Try to lay down in a very comfortable way, without any tension in your body, because that might cause another squeezed blood vessel. If it’s the second one, then you might have been entering the first phase of paralysis and your body was indeed falling asleep.
The swirling lines and stars, are they really random and chaotic or do they actually form recognizable patterns which endure for a while and/or develop into more complex imagery?
Perhaps the key to see those images again is to relax deeper. Use for instance the counting technique to slow and deepen your breath. Each time when you exhale, visualize for instance how you’re sinking through the bed (or how you’re falling in an abyss, or going down in an elevator or rollercoaster). Really try to feel the sensations and let yourself and your body go. Feel how it becomes heavier and heavier after each breath, but don’t concentrate too hard on it. Instead, concentrate on your breath and/or your counting. All the rest, like the simulation of the sinking sensation, has to be done passively, like in the back of your mind. Otherwise you’ll keep fixed on your physical body and it becomes more tough to get deeper into relaxation. When you evolve further, you even have to let go of your counting technique, because that too requires too much attention. But it still helps in the beginning

Good luck!

thanks for the advice, as for the tingling it feels like my hands are asleep kind of, it spreads throughout my body if i can stay calm long enough. the images they resemble nothing. i’m not even sure if they are there some of the time. they never have formed into anything because they usually go away for some reason, maybe i focus on tehm too much, maybe i get too excited. then tingling also comes and goes. it sounds like i’m making progress but i will follow the advice and see where i go.
