It was just a thought that occurred to me when i woke up this morning (and i think its a bit different from CALD - but i might be wrong!). Has anyone ever tried asking a DC or just asking the dream itself what the best way is personally for you to induce an LD?
I just thought it might be an interesting way to sort through all the different techniques and tips out there by directly asking your SC or whatever about what would work best for you…
My LDs don’t last long enough at the moment for me to try this out - but i will try if i get a chance!
I’m not sure how this will go. Maybe it’s effectiveness is based on beliefs to some degree too. If you see LDs as spiritual then it could be very effective. If you see it as being something created by the subconcious, it might work, but it would be equivilent to thinking about in waking life, maybe more ‘true to yourself.’ If dreams are just random images made into a story, then it would be like rolling a dice.
I agree that we have no idea how useful it could be - but i figure its worth a go! At the moment i do lean towards the idea of LDs being more spiritual - but i also see them as being a way of getting closer to your SC. I don’t see these two ideas as being mutually exclusive. But at the moment i certainly don’t have enough experience of LDs to base it on anything!
I’ve actually asked a DC a couple times to help me stay longer in my LD’s
once the guy taught me a lucid dreaming dance. What a waste of time. It was fun though!
and another time the DC simply said “freeze!” so I stood completely still. It felt like it was working but I woke up anyway… I think the point of it was to focus more on the dream, instead of my thoughts and worries.
But adding the word “personaly” might make a difference! I’ll see if I can try this again!
I actually asked both my SC and a random DC for ways to improve my LD practice: my SC answered that i should continue the WBTB routine for october (lawl seems i’m on the good way), while the DC was a math professor, busy writing equations on a blackboard, to whom i asked “Which is better for me to get lucid?”: he didn’t answer right away, so i illustrated the possible answers: “MILD, WILD, awareness…” and he lazily answered, still looking at the board “Awrness, yes” (misspelling included). Even if he was quite a jerk, i was already getting into the idea lucid living was the best thing to do, so i actually followed his advice.
Wow Tosxychor! That sounds great! I personally have come to feel that awareness is the way forward… not to say that the other techniques don’t work because they do but i think that awareness and lucid living is at the crux of it - i just wish i didn’t find it so hard!
It seems from your experience that asking for advice whilst lucid is a good thing to try
I actually focused on that in my LD’s, that is, gettimg to know myself a little better, meeting my SG/SC, trying to experiment with lucidity etc. when i remembered to do it, so i had relatively boring/short experiences, but i’m getting better at it by the week, and i guess i won’t be satisfied until i reach WritersCube’s abnormous level of LD’ing awesomeness (even if it could take a lot of time lawl);
Just a parting advice, don’t ask questions to random DC’s if you want a deep answer. I already said mine wasn’t even listening. If you want to really know something, you must trust the character in front of you fully first: only then you will be satisfied with the answer.
Thanks thats great advice - once my brain can think of something other than starting back at college hopefully i will have some more LD’s to try this on! xx
I wholeheartedly recommend it, Cariad. I have been amazed by some of the guidance I have received myself by doing this. I had a lucid dream the other day where my soul showed me where I was going wrong with my sleeping posture. They arranged themselves in all the twisted positions I get myself into during the night. They were like statues, completely still and silent with arms flayed like the branches of trees. They covered themselves from head to toe in black jump-suits with holes only for the face and joints.
The message was to lay perfectly flat in silence without moving a muscle throughout the night and focus within to have more lucid dreams. Only my elbows should move when I pick up my pad to write them down
