How do you manage to get to the place you want?

I have a problem. I’ve been practicing lucid dreaming/OBE for about 2–3 months now, and I often manage to achieve 1–3 obe per week, with about 4–8 experiences in a single session. However, I usually end up in various rooms, interacting with objects and characters, practicing walking through walls, flying, and so on.

But when I try to create a portal and go through a door or a wall to reach a specific place, I often end up somewhere else, or the place doesn’t even look close to what I expected.

For example, in my last experience I tried to teleport to Rivendell, the elven kingdom from The Lord of the Rings. I created a portal, imagined that the place was on the other side, and stepped into it. But funnily enough, I ended up back in my own room.

Then I thought I would try to go to the Star Wars universe. I clearly imagined it and even saw something similar to it inside the portal. I entered it, but it failed again — I ended up in something like a cinema or a player with a big screen where a movie similar to Star Wars was playing.

In the next experience the same day, I tried to open a door, but it just led me to another random room in my house — nothing special.

What if you could make it a little easier for yourself with some in between steps?

E.g. instead of going through a portal to Rivendell in one go (great destination idea btw!), you could perhaps…

  1. Find an object on the floor that’s from rivendell, then look up from it and be in Rivendell.
  2. Or let an elf come into the scene and ask them if they could bring you to Rivendell somehow.
  3. Or fly really high into the sky and see if you can spot Rivendell from there, then fly towards it.

Maybe this way you can ease your mind into having more control of the places.

No idea if this works for you? Would love to hear it.
