I find WILD uncomfortable

I know it’s not for me.

I can’t get into SP because I can’t relax because of my fear of dark.

I can’t WILD, my head twitches all the time when trying to imagine going down sets of stairs while looking up.

I can’t WBTB because my mind is focused on my alarm clock too much, and I don’t go to sleep quickly.

Any way to resolve these issues?

I’m not very good at most kinds of WILD either, but you can do it if you find the method that works for you. I’m terrible at lying still and waiting to see some hypnagogic imagery or to go into sleep paralysis, I’m just too restless. So Instead I use the counting technique, which is when you lay in bed and count like this as you fall asleep; 1, I’m dreaming, 2, I’m dreaming, and so on. Even if I eventually forget about it and stop counting and then fall asleep, I will sometimes find myself in my dream saying “57, I’m dreaming…hey wait a minute, I really am dreaming!”

You’re patent enough to get too 57? My mind normally can’t be bothered after 20 or so, so I stop.

Well, the number 57 is just an example. Sometimes I might fall asleep before I reach 50, other times I’ll count until I loose patience and give up. But either way, chances are I’ll dream of counting and saying “I’m dreaming,” which can be enough to make you become lucid.

Wow, only 20. That is really quite little. You are supposed to count until you are dreaming. If you’re that impatient you HAVE TO do WBTB.

As for the issues.
-Fear of the dark. Well, you gotta get over it sometime, right? You might as well do your best to ignore it.

-Head twitching. If this happens when you are doing a relaxation technique, it’s probably a sign that it’s working. When we fall asleep, muscles may twitch.

-Focusing too much on alarm clock. I guess the best thing to do is to focus on something else, like WILDing.

I don’t suppose I was too helpful.

Wait… Exactly why do you focus on your alarm clock while lying in bed trying to WILD?

As Krakatoa said, that doesn’t seem like it should be a problem; could you explain what you mean by that?

Well I don’t mean concentrating on my alarm clock, I don’t stare at it or anything. It’s just that my mind knows it’s there and that it is going to go off and wake me up and possibly my dad who is in room next to mine. Just one room away.

I can’t seem to get the hold of steps. Can I change it to something else, so I can maybe count like “One, am I dreaming? Two, am I dreaming now?” while walking from house to house?

It’s just the words “I’m dreaming” seem to lose meaning as I get into the counting, and I know it sounds stupid but I don’t exactly know how I can count while imaging going down stairs.

Another thing I may need advice for, sorry.

You don’t need to follow everything exactly as the guide says. “I’m dreaming” is by no means the magical LD word and stairs aren’t so special either.

They are just examples. The “I’m dreaming” mantra is just a way to keep your conscious mind awake so you don’t drift off to normal sleep, you can change it into anything you want although it may be good to keep it related to LDing as another use for it is that if you do fall into a normal dream, you will dream about saying your mantra and if it happens to be “I’m dreaming” or something similar, the idea is that you’ll stop and say, “…Wait a minute…I really am dreaming!” and fly away…

As for the stairs thing, that’s a symbolic representation of you falling deeper into sleep/dreams; its not necessary, it’s just most people find it useful. If you still want to try the stairs, just count each step you take while going down, so instead of counting to yourself and imagining stairs, combine them and just count the stairs. If you’re not so keen on the whole stair thing, basically anything you can think of that could involve moving down would work, it’s just stairs are the easiest to think about. Or, like I mentioned earlier, you can just drop the whole visualising thing and not worry about it.

Sorry if this is so unorganized, but the point of the post is that you should feel free to modify any listed technique to make it easier/more comfortable for you as there is no “one ultimate method” for everyone, we’re all different. Just don’t make extreme drastic changes that completely alter the tech, otherwise, you may as well not follow any technique suggestions at all.

Oh, and for the alarm thing…I don’t really have an answer!
Has anyone else experienced that?

maybe if you tried WILD earlier in the night rather than moments before your alarm is going to go off, you might be more confident?

well it seems I’m good at WILD I’ve just done it (20 mins ago) and it was crazy I’ll tell you that. This would be my third try at it and I became lucid for about 4 seconds but hey since I know how to do it the next ones will be longer I’m sure. but anyways while doing WILD you start to feel like your falling asleep then you start counting breathes or seconds whatever you count, you focus on your breathing then if you persist your body will start to twitch everywhere randomly and then you will feel really tingly ( this didn’t happen until I counted to about 110) after all that happened I held my nose shut and took in a breathe and i guess i was so happy about this, I came out of my dream and had found the same RC would pass, 5 seconds after the first one failed.

So tomorrow I’m going to try again, and you should to. Just keep trying and to all those who said WILD is so difficult well I’m getting some pretty great results on my first few tries eh?

Is it possible to take WILD naps?

^I’ve heard WILD naps are easier to do (One time I had like 3 recurring ones when I was home sick)
Last night I tried to WILD by listening to one of the “lucid dream inducing” beats (mainly just to drown out the outside noises that usually wake me up). All it did was give me a head ache, and its uncomfortable lying with earbuds on… I almost got SP, and my eyes were twitching like crazy but then the beat ended and startled me.

I think tonight I’ll try the counting/“I am dreaming” method since recently I’m having trouble getting HI. It’s kind of annoying how I used to be able to LD so easily before I even knew anything about them. Now that I know the potential, it seems harder to do. :bored:

well I always do WILD the first time I’m going to bed and I get the same results as someone who just would wake up and start doing it. Although I don’t think you can do a WILD nap unless you’re really tired and its quiet.

I found that with my eyes twitching it’s really hard to keep them closed and once they opened it woke me up :bored: , and by the way i find counting (I’m dreaming) works well as long as you focus on your breathing while doing it and not on the counting itself.

Same! Sometimes when I get really relaxed, my eyes just naturally open so I have to stress to keep them closed sometimes.

So should I try counting my breaths? Or just focus on my breathing patterns?

I don’t really count to any frame of time just count and focus on your breathing if you count your breaths I think it’s distracting but that’s just me.
