I need help, WILD doesnt get me anywhere

I know there are a million posts about WILD not working, but I’ve read a lot of them but I still don’t know the answer to my questions. Here’s my problem. I do WBTB after about 3 or 6 hours after sleep and then try WILD. I’ve had a bunch of DILDs but never has WILD even come close to working I don’t think. I usually end up lying in bed for a long time, feel numb and tingly, but thats really about it. sometimes I’ll get the falling sensation and/or swirly purple lights and then it’ll just stop and I’ll be feeling normal again. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten HI and I know I haven’t had SP. My two questions are this:

  1. Do you actually “see” HI, like are they actually behind your eyelids? (I mean i know they’re hallucinations, but do you see them or imagine them?)

  2. Am I just not waiting long enough? Like is it really possible to have an unsuccessful WILD or is it just a matter of not waiting long enough?

How long you’ve tried WILD ? How good you understand the rules and technique ?
First , you must believe with all your heart and soul that will work .
Second , If you just begin , you should practice , for nearly a month and then , realize if he work or he doesn’t . If he doesn’t , you should try others methods , like MILD , DILD s.a.m.d .
Finally , I want to wish you success in Lucid Dreaming .

Eeerrrr, i dont think its possible to force yourself to believe something, rather it would be better to think of how possible it is, rather than try to force yourself to believe rather acknowledge that WILD exists, is scientifically proven, obviously works given the amount of people who talk of their WILD’s.

WILD is for some (some people can do it better than others or have an advantage such as being able to fall asleep fast) people the hardest technique and for good reason, you are forcing yourself to stay consicous while your body wants to shut down in delta sleep and get some rest, it takes an incredibly long time to master so dont be disheartened if you dont achieve success early on.

You’ve experienced numbness and various sensations, hell you’ve seen some sort of proto-HI display which is more than i can say for myself! persistance is key.

You better believe it’s possible. It’s not so much forcing yourself, you just have to know it’s going to work. This works for so many things in life besides lucid dreaming, also. Learn to control your perception and you learn to control many aspects of your life.

So last night I got the furthest I’ve ever gotten with WILD. I did a WBTB after 4 hours or so. I laid in bed on my back and tried to use Adam’s WILD guide by focusing on physical sensation and imagining the weird falling sinking feeling. So I basically laid in bed for a while and eventually I found my left hand very tingly. After a while, I think it was paralyzed, or at least feeling heavy and very tingly. This moved up my left arm and into my right hand. Then I sorta started drifting off and found myself with the vibration on my face. There were no HI but the vibration were pretty weak but definately there. However, I guess this got me excited so I gained concsiousness and become more awake. Then they went away. And plus, I have a knee condition where my knees hurt a lot after leaving them still for a long period of time. Would this be a huge deterrent from getting WILD to work for me? And what should I do differently in my next attempt? And should I try to focus on the feelings or just try to ignore them?

The whole thing was only for about 20 mins and then I got impatient because pretty much all the sensations went away so I rolled over and fell back to sleep after a while. :help:

as for me, i never see HI. I definitely get the vibrations though. They cant be missed. It happens all of a sudden and is a terrible feeling. It is hard to explain but anyway i have never seen HI. This doesn’t mean to say it doesn’t happen though

HI are more than just swirly colours. There more like ideas. Usually surreal ideas. I was reading last night, and was getting very sleepy. The plot of the book suddenly seemed to become very unstable and something else started creeping in; seperate little plot ideas, and then I kept on realising "hang on, I’m nodding off. This is hypnagogia. I’ve even had it when playing guitar before late at night, really tired, my eyes closed and head drooped. The melodies started to seem not like melodies but more like two people having an argument, or a bird flying, and wondering where the hell these thoughts are coming from. I remember one particularly wierd HI I had once; It just felt like I was on a sofa with the actress Whoopie Goldberg. Completely random from by conscious mind’s perspective. They can be as simple as a glimpse of a tree, but in the early stages, you don’t really see it, it just feels like you saw it, or feels like it was there. Purple swirls are usually just chemical reactions in your retinas.
As for the technique itself, the idea is to ignore anything you feel in your body, because you are essentially trying to trick your body into shutting down, by pretending you’re allready asleep. If your body detects a reaction to any of the sensations then it knows your not asleep, and so therefor doesn’t shut down. You have to remain still for long enough that your body decides your obviously not awake. It often tests this by creating a strong urge to change position. If there is no reaction to this urge, you pass the test. Your body thinks you are aleep and shuts down. Another thing that can hinder the attempt are the effects of excitement or fear. If you become excited or frightened at the onset of hypnagogia and SP, your breathing and heartrate change, by particular pathways that let the body know that these effects are the reaction to things experienced by a conscious mind (I hope that makes sense - I got a little lost in that sentence), so it doesn’t shut down.
Try to ignore absolutely everything and just focus your entire mind on counting. Anything that starts happening, try to observe it rather that experience it first person. As HI progress into more vivid scenarios, you can put your mind into them, and you can eventually step into one (which is an odd sensation), or you can just carry on concentrating on just the counting until there are some loud intense noises, and then silence as you find yourself in the astral plane (which I believe is just your imagination’s recreation of your physical surroundings) free to do pretty much anything.

hey thanks all you guys this is extremely helpful. I think that basically at this point I get to the point where i am ABOUT to get into SP and i get the overwhelming urge to move that mutant described. against all logic i always succumb to this and now i will try not to. I’ll try this tonight and post results. thanks guys

my “vibrations” usually come in the form of an earthquake shaking my enire house! XD

what helps me sometimes is imagining all of my “soul” or “life energy” leaving my arms and legs and flowing into my brain. It’s blue =D

The main thing that distracts me is swallowing. I keep doing it and just can’t stop :meh:
