First of all, i’m new here. Hello.
Second of all, i’ve had reddit for about 3 months now for the sole purpose of talking about lucid dreaming (so no, i am not a fat ■■■■ that wastes his life posting dank memes and talking to other redditors or worse, if ykyk)
I was just wondering if this forum is better than reddit or is it basically just the same but with less people. Someone answer me this.
oh and almost forgot, what are the differences between these two?
I hate r/luciddreaming, so I decided to support this forum. The subreddit is 95% stupid n00b questions, and I remember mods acknowledging that it’s fine they don’t want to fix it. The remaining 5% gets quickly burried and forgotten under layers of newbie spam, because of how reddit presents information.
Reddit is built for ephermal discussions that last couple of days. It’s built for posting funny memes that compete for karma and then selected by the algorithm™. For scrolling, rating, posting funny comments to get upvotes, doing silly things in the comments to get upvotes.
Forums, on the contrary, structured for long-lasted meaningful threads. Take this one, it’s 23 years old: The BIG VILD Topic - Part I - #218 by Night-Owl Forum structure allows better community building and consolidation of experience. If you notice that most of the known techniques were created/refined/popularized on forums, and none came from that damn subreddit, despite how active it is.
So for me yes, ld4all is way better, even if it is in lethargic state. I believe the more people come here and comment occasionally, the faster it reaches the critical mass and comes back to life.
Wow great take man. And to be honest bro, i agree with everything you said–especially the “newbie spam” part. Because most of them enter the subreddit just to say something like “how do i lucid dream” or “just had my first lucid dream!” when there’s thousands of videos that have explained this already. Not only that most of them give up on lucid dreaming about 1-2 weeks later because things aren’t going exactly how they want them to be. Like come on now, it’s a skill to master! Either way, thank you for the high effort answer, i guess i’ll just LDAR here now since this forum seems like it’s actually into this. The only negative thing about this is that this forum looks dead, and it probably is. I’m guessing it was on it’s peak in around 2020, right? (Please correct me if i’m wrong. I’m genuinely interested to know.)
the peak was around early 2000’s.
in 2020 the forum was moved to this new space (different platform) and that’s why things look inactive. Because on the old forum we didn’t have a lot of features that we have now (like likes on a post, stuff like that). So it looks like nothing really happened for a long time, which is true in a way but also not true in another way.
either way i’m glad that new folks are (re)discovering this space. And let’s see what evolves Next lucid dreaming generation, hello!
