My mother told me once that when we day dream whilst closing our eyes and such, our minds get confused about which reality we’re in, obviously these are my own words just trying to make it sound more efficiant. The point is though that there must be a way to trick our minds into converting our reality through the power of the mind, and my question follows: Is it actually possible?
I know that this basically has something to do with lucid dreaming, and it probably is just that, but I remember times when I’ve day dreamt a little too far and my dad’s had to make me “snap out of it” by going “Jonny, Jonny!”, not that I was that deep into thinking but that’s basically what happens, but only sometimes.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to do what I’m trying to explain, care to help? Would be appreciated.
Well, there’s visualization. Some people can see clear images when they close theur eyes. It can be learnt too. I’d like to learn it, but haven’t had any success…
And visualization isn’t only for sight. You can also imagine sounds, textues, tastes and smells so vividly that you actually feel them. It would be very cool to be able to just close your eyes in the middle of the day and go somewhere else.
Not sure if this is exactly what you’re talking about…
That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I was thinking earlier that it might be possible to just rest your head on the table and just go into fantasy land, that’s when I just came out of trying to day dream about that ship you’re in at the start of Final Fantasy X, and talking to Rikku. If you don’t know about that or havn’t played the game, then just ignore that and replace it with “Futuristic place at night with fantisizeable characters”.
This sounds like something i would be very interested in. mattiasdavis, are there any good resources you know of that teach visualization? now that i’ve got LD-ing down pretty good, i’d like to try to learn something different as well. (It’s like drugs… once i learn how to do one thing, i like it so much that i’m up for the challenge of something else ). and thatnks Jdeadevil! this is very interesting. I never thought of being able to close my eyes and fool my mind into forgetting about reality.
Yes, yes. very interesting topic! I’ve been looking for people interested in this to share experiences and knowledge. Let me see if I can find a link. It isn’t much though, the few links I’ve found said about the same things… and I have only been able to get tiny results…
Anyway, if anyone is interested to exchange some PM’s about this, I’m here!
I need to get my motivation back for this. I really beleive the rewards for getting good at visualization are increadible.
You just reminded me, I need to get back in motivation too, I havn’t even been trying to at least remember my dreams, let alone lucid dream. So the sudden ambishion of good Visualization skill kind of got my excited, I’m very glad I decided to post this question!
Thanks for the links Matt, these will make some good use, so I’ll check them out. Image Streaming increasing IQ as well as helping in Visualization is actually really interesting too! I’d love to increase my IQ personally, so I shall take a look into this.
You’re the man Matt, thanks for posting!
Just to update this post, I saw this paragraph:
In the style of lucid dreaming, this is something I discovered before actually reading this. My first thought was the film “Matilda” which was about a girl who could do this exact activity in with her mind but so strong that she basically had quite good Telekenises, even though they never mentioned anything of the sort in the film itself, came into good use for the storyline though!
I haven’t really actively pursued this but I do know what you’re talking about. though it hasn’t really been on purpose I’ve taught myself how to memorize the smells of people I consider important to me (close family members that live far away, a girlfriend, other close friends) so that if I ever want to I can simply close my eyes and it will almost feel like they are there with me. I haven’t really tried it with places though.
hahahah, true. but it CAN be done without a friend or a tape recorder. But it’s a lot better with these things. I do it without maybe because I’m focusing on the “seeing images” part… I’ve had some cool results very early in the morning, in the bus, going to class. I’m pretty sleepy, I guess it helps see stuff easier…
What do you do? Go into Notepad and type out what you’re seeing whilst day dreaming or something? I’m really not a fan of my own voice in a tape recorder.
Actually, I don’t record it… I just… close my eyes and look at the darkness, trying to capture any image that enters my mind. I’m guessing that for increasing Iq and stuff like that, this way might not be that good…
Yeah, I THINK. Not really sure, I’m kinda new to image straming myself…
But I read one place too that trying to hold images in your mind helps to get better in visualization. Like the little tiny “flashes” you get before you fall asleep (not HI yet…). I don’t know. I just try to hold on to them, as long as I can. I’m used to just letting them go…
Keeping images in your mind for as long as you can? I can kind of guess how that would help your mind, hehe. It would probably end up giving you a head ache if you get stressed and/or bored easily, at a guess.
