Lucid combat - How do YOU do it?

Nightmarish creatures sometimes appear in my low lucidity dreams. I actually tend to get lucid in pure desperation during my Nightmares, I guess I whant to get away so much that my mind is considering all options of escape + the slow running works like a dreamsign.
To defend myself in these situations I often use some kind of magic powers, like throwing fireballs or pushing them away with telekinesis. I once shot a fireball as a reflex when a “bad guy” teleported himself to an inch infront of my face, the result was disgusting. :eh:

So what kind of warefare do you use against your dream-foes?

I haven’t gotten into too many scraps when LDing, so I really don’t have much experience to offer. I’ve found that really aggressive physical attacks don’t work very well for me; punches, kicks, and other things like that all work about as well as trying to run (as in, not at all— I’m guessing it’s because I’m not quite completely in the dream, and my waking body is trying to act some of it out). However, less aggressive things (like, in my last lucid, snapping necks) work pretty well; I’m pretty psyched to try magic/psi attacks, the next time I LD.

I have the same problem alot actually, not regarding combat though never tried physical attacks (More then a reflex superhero move where i threw the badguy that i burnt with the fireball onto his friends). But rather with as you say; Running and fast movement. I however find that the slow moving kind of helps flying by doing swim-motions with your arms. That the heavy fealing that prevents you from running fast etc, becomes more present in your arms and allons you to drag your body into the air.
Intresting to try and play with, but I woudl realy be able to get through this second wall when it comes lucid dreaming, controlling yourself and your surroundings.

I don’t often find myself in these situations with other dream characters, and if I do, it is not because I have started it.

There are a couple practical defenses that I employ.

If someone(thing) is attacking me, I use my blade (if its available) to defend myself, and ensure that whatever it is does not get to close. I do not lash out, or try to attack the image before me. Eventually, if it does not go away, I will try to get close enough to give them a hug… an expression of love goes a long way when taming hostile ones…

If someone is distracting me or blocking my way, I dance around them and continue my journey…

If someone is insulting me verbaly, I use wit and jest to dismantle their words by insulting myself to show them that their insults could be better…

Alot of time I find that if something is fighting me , or being less then nice, reacting in a similiar manner will only pursuade them to continue to their actions. The faster you run the quicker they will chase you etc.

The best defense is an open heart and an open mind. Learning not to feel fear, and to love even the scariest of beasts is certainly a handy trait to train.

This is an interesting topic, for me it depends entirely on the environment. I generally follow the rules of the dream. For instance, I had a dream where a guy was running around hurling fireballs at everyone, so I did the same. In another dream a DC got into a fight with me, and I saw a pot of ink nearby, willed it out and splashed it over his eyes. When all else fails, I usually have the ability to summon a sword and shield at the least, but I find that a bit messy, not to mention unnecessary. Luckily, I don’t get into too many fights in my dreams.

More often than not I just run away from anything hostile; rarely do I get into a direct fight. When I do get in a fight for whatever reason, I usually use guns. The bigger, the better. One proud moment I remember was mowing down an entire army with a portable gatling gun. Try doing that with a sword!

Sometimes I’ll hack and slash with a sword or massette or something. Other times I’ll turn into a beast and eat them. Which ever I’m in the mood for.

I don’t get into fights in LDs. Nobody seems to be aggressive. I am usually the most aggressive person around. Because I find it funny sometimes to just hit someone. So far I think the violence I have dished out has been mundane. Hands and feet. Occasionally a knife, which has always failed to work. But one time when fighting zombies I used a chainsaw, which was fun! I used it to cut a zombies head into slices. There was no blood, but the insides looked like anatomical pictures.

i had no choice to learn to fight, for i was being hassled by which i have now discovered to be shadow beings…
i turn to light, i turn to shadows, i turn to both, its cool takeing these forms on…
the light form is the most beautiful light i have seem, it repells the shadows.
i can control it, manipulate it, send it into others
it can even heal your self or others, it sourrounds me like a fire of light!
i love the light form : )
there is also the shadow form, which also has its powers, i only know one or two dark techniques

Use a water gun, except it sprays water out with more pressure thatn a water hose. Imagine it. Someone is ready to attack you, you take out your water gun, the say, “Hahaha!! What’s a water gun going to do to me?” Spray it at them and watch them fly off into the distance

Well there’s the usual energy beams and energy swords and random :nuu: weapons of absolute blow-up-in-your-face-doom… and then there’s playing god, like I did last night to beat a dream clone literally to dust…

I recognize this. I used to try to run away and have this familiar feeling of running through jelly. I always tried to continue on hands and feet like an animal to make more speed, LOL! This worked, but not enough, so my last attempt to escape was always flying, which made me realize I was dreaming. I don’t have these dreams very often anymore.

Once a tiger attacked me in my dream trying to bite off my arm. After getting lucid at that moment I turned the tiger into a kitten! My one and only success of changing a nasty dream into something nice.

Well, a couple nights ago I beat the living crap out of a DC with my fists.
He was sentenced to one month in prison.
I use magic, usually.

Normally when I fight in a dream, I either fail epically, such as feeling incredibly weak and DCs just shrug off my blows, or I kick arse.

Not sure how exactly, but I do distinctly remember doing a stunner in one dream, and hitting someone with a bicycle in another.

When I’ve gotten into a fight in ND’s I’ve found that guns are kind of unreliable, in one dream I shot a guy four times with a shotgun and he just kept coming. In another I tried to use a grenade but I found that I couldn’t arm it. I think if I get into a fight in a lucid dream I’ll try using superpowers, like laser vision. Trying a falcon punch would be cool too.

I havent gotten many LD-s, only about 6 total. But in ND-s I usually get really angry and use raw physical force to wipe floor with my enemies

I actually love nightmares because the fear acts as an incredibly powerful dreamsign. I haven’t had much combat experience in LDs, though. Half the time I can just talk to whatever the fear was and convince it not to harm me. When that doesn’t work, I just will the enemy out of existence, or mentally force it to become friendly.

However, in NDs, I often end up using awesome sci-fi weapons, like a Power Suit Arm Cannon or a tri-barrel rocket launcher.

There’s a reason why I think a dragon is more fitting than a ram, (I’m an Aries). What I usually do in my non-lucid dreams is flare up to even the smallest of offenses, clawing and punching them. I’ll stab them with my knife if it decides to show up, and occasionally I’ll hit them with a blast of fire to the face.(I’ve never managed to turn into a dragon, which makes me sad.)

In my lucid dreams, I try to make it more of a challenge, sword fighting, epic battles…the works. Although I never do manage to make it truly entertaining—my DCs are always weaker than me. Bleh, I guess I should just stick to summoning characters.

i like to stand on one leg… to confuse those that cross me. :shy:
what i do after that, i cant tell

Believe me…you don’t want your DCs to be stronger than you, ever. Trust me when I say that quickly turns into a nightmare. :bored:
