Memory improving

I read several books on how to improve your memory, they all stated that in order to remember things you should use your imagination.

There are several techniques like the major system, the peg system, the number shape system that are used to remember things, you can read more about them here https://www.ludism.org/mentat/FrontPage.

I was wondering if any of you have used these methods in real life situations like studying or anything else and were they useful?

Personally I don’t.

I find my memory chooses what to give priority to though. I tend to be incredibly good at recognising faces, even if I had only seen them once. Annoyingly, I often forget names and place names etc…

It would be good if everything balanced out! I think my memory is more pictorial than literary.

I have heard a good way to remember things is to make journeys out of them or imagine scenarios involving the items and put images and motion to otherwise static, redundant objects…

I think it’s boring, so no. I know someone who does all these memory exercises, but I don’t see the point. I do keep all my appointments and dates and things in my head, though (I don’t use a diary), because I think that’s a lot more useful.
