My recent experience and some experiments

Hi all, I had a pretty exciting (well, for me at least) LD last night, so I thought I’d register and tell you all about it.

I became aware that I was dreaming (as you do) and found myself in the street where my grandparents used to live. I looked on the ground and there was some debris there. I also saw some coins on the pavement so I picked them up.

One sure fire sign that I know I’m dreaming, is that things will change if I keep looking at them. Is this common with you guys? I had a couple of 50 pence pieces in my hand, and sure enough, they changed into 2 pound coins, and there appeared an extra one in my hand.

I decided to throw one a few feet away from me towards the ground and see if it made the right sound. Sure enough it did. Then I decided to throw another one and see if it would make the same sound. It did! Exactly the same jingling noise! My brain was using the same sound both times! Amazing really.

And finally, I decided to try to influence my body while I was asleep. Somehow, I’m not sure how, I knew what position I was lying in, on my back. I decided to move my fingers on my left hand into a scissor type position and see what would happen when I woke up. Unfortunately, it didn’t work! When I woke up my fingers were in a completely different position to while I was in the asleep state. So it just goes to show that the body is completely disassociated from the brain while asleep. In this case at least.

Hi Dream Dreamer, and welcome to LD4All :welcome:

Congrats on your first LD, and those were some pretty crafty expiriments (Hey, all of these coins have just appered on my hands, changed, and now they all make the same sound, Cool  )

But your second expiriment Iidn’t think was so cool. You go into SP when you sleep; you couldn’t have moved if you wanted to.

Other than that, groovy

He never said it was his first did he?

You seem way too excited about that…
Isn’t it strange how even the most mundane activities become incredible experiences in lucid dreams? I enjoy skipping stones and playing in the sand, myself…

Seems very logical. :content: While we are good at visualising things we have never seen, I think the brain prefers to use “stock footage”. When it comes to things as complex as sound, it seems proper the brain uses a “sound clip” instead of tryin to figure out how metal on asphalt would sound. The brain doesn’t know what air, gravity or vibrations are.

Your subconcious can be very crafty, maybe it wouldn’t have been the same noise if you weren’t thinking about it at the time.

perhaps it only made the same noise because you expected it to?

Thanks for the responses guys - you make a lot of sense!

I had another one last night - this is fun! And this one is definitely more exciting than playing with coins lol. I got the feeling that I was dreaming, as you do, so I decided to test it out. There was a person standing in front of me, so I said to myself, stare at their face and see if it changes. And sure enough their face changed! Not something that would happen in real life would it?

Anyway I had to keep telling myself I was dreaming cos I was doubting myself all the time. It feels so real. I leapt over a bannister and fell about 20 feet, completely ok! So I decided to throw caution to the wind and go crazy. I went into this room where there were loads of old people sitting around tables, so I grabbed one of the chairs and started trying to hit them!

Pretty evil really, but it’s only a dream, right? Unfortunately the people started disappearing before I could hit them. Maybe my guilty conscience lol.

Anyway I’d like to hear more from you guys about your experiences. In particular if anyone has experienced the notion of being aware of dreaming because things change around you.

I always tend to realise because of something pretty normal. Flying people, magic, impossible things all happen, and I don’t bat an eyelid. Then something pretty normal happens and I suddenly become suspicious and know it’s a LD. Weird…
