New to LD, some related experiences

I’m as new to LD as I’m here in this forum… :content:

I have some experiences I’d like to solve, if they have anything to do with what I may experience if I start practicing LD.

One time I dreamed of lying on my back in bed, and there was this massive ball, like a huge roll of string on my lower body. It was very heavy and I could barely move. In my dream it was some kind of a collection of extreme knowledge, and these bird like creatures were flying into and out of it, passing the information. I tried but couldn’t make any sense of any of it. Anyway the dream is not the point here… I slowly started to realise I’m in my bed, and drifted to being awake. I didn’t snap out of it, but slowly became aware of reality. Being awake, I could still feel the ball on me. Then a very disturbing feeling took over my body, like being very numb or under pressure…it’s hard to describe. It was almost like I felt it with a sense I don’t normally have. I laid there for a while, then I turned on my side and the feeling disappeared. I felt relieved at first, but the feeling slowly grow back on me. So I had to keep on moving to keep it away. I would fall asleep and snap out of it to change my position when the feeling grow too intense. Finally I got up from my bed and went to sleep on a couch…seemed like a good idea then. I felt weird on my lower body when walking to the couch. After rolling on the couch for what seemed like forever, I finally fell asleep and woke up feeling ok in the morning. I’ve had this only once and never want to experience it again. The feeling was very unreal and disturbing. Does any of this sound familiar to anybody? Could it be SP? I could move but it would come back if I didn’t.

The other experiences I’ve had are more pleasant. :content:

I once dreamed walking out of my bedroom, it was dark and somehow I got the idea I might be dreaming. I tried to turn on the lights, but the lamp would only make a flashing star like pattern on the roof. I said to myself, “Yes it’s a dream”. Then I woke up. Was this a mild LD?

The third experience is when I had some random dream and then everything went black. I realised I was dreaming and tried to wake up and open my eyes. They were extremely heavy and I had to try really hard but finally I started to see some foggy light and my eyes opened, I was then awake on my bed. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it was really cool. I felt like a winner when I got my eyes opened

I’m not a native english speaker, hope this long description was readable

Welcome to LD4all Mikk

Sounds like you experienced bodily paralysis. I have often experienced this sensation you describe, particularly when emerging from a lucid dream fully conscious - it’s preculiar, but somehow pleasant, almost like you’re in the ocean and float slowly to the surface.

Electronic equipment often malfunctions or doesn’t work properly in dreams. Sounds like you woke up as soon as you become lucid, you should look into some exercises to prolong your lucid dreams (ie spinning, rubbing hands together).

Hi Mikk! Welcome to the forum!

As Snape said, your first experience was akin to SP. It wasn’t properly SP, cause you could move. I noticed that in some dreams, we can become aware of our REM sleep paralysis state, so that we may have dreams which have a sort of SP content.

The further experiences you relate are LD’s. Congrats!

Thanks for the answers! It’s nice to know what I’ve actually been experiencing. I suppose I have to start my dream journal then, this all seems too interesting to miss. :content:

Btw…in the dream where I tried to turn on the lights, I remembered reading somewhere on the internet about experimenting with light switches and mirrors. I don’t normally remember things in my dreams directly from real life, but then the light switch experiment came to my mind and it was an intentional act to try it. I wish I could remember things like that more often in my dreams… Well, maybe with practice :plotting:

One more thing I’d really like to know.

Is it possible, when you become ludic, to clearly remember stuff from your everyday life? Like all the things you’ve wanted to try when lucid, what you did yesterday etc? Or do you just have to think about the experiments when awake so much, that they pop into your mind when dreaming, but you don’t directly remember anything?

That’s possible in high lucidity levels.

And that’s possible in low lucidity levels.

You can try and change from high to low by shouting “More lucidity!” and other tricks I don’t remember yet.

Cool! That’s what I was hoping to hear… :content: Thanks again

Also you should get into the habbit of setting intentions before you go to bed (MILD), that way you are programming your brain

Bahh, I’m anti brain programming. I go through enough of it because of high school

Ok, I’ve started my dream journal and already I can remember more of my dreams simply because I’m paying more attention to them. I’ve also got into the habit of telling myself every night I go to sleep that I’m going to dream now and when I wake up I’ll remember my dreams.

After reading the replies here and studying more on lucid dreaming on this site I have been able to turn the first experience from terrifying to a missed opportunity in my mind. I think I now know exactly what happened.

Like Basilus West said, I think I became aware of the paralysis state on my dream. I then woke up, having SP. It was the first time I experienced it. It didn’t last for long, and I was then able to move and turn on my side. While my mind was now very alert and concerned about the experience, my body was drifting back to sleep. That would be the weird feeling taking over my body. I remember being very tired, but so worried about the feeling that I couldn’t fall asleep. I would move and my body would wake up for a while, before starting to sleep again. This circle then repeated for many times. Does this make sense? I think it would explaing perfectly what I experienced. Had I known what I’ve learned here, I could have take advance of the situation trying to WILD. :content: I wouldn’t now actually mind if I experienced the same thing again

Oh, one more question I have. :hyper:
I have the feeling that I never experience a dream as it happens. It’s like the memories of a dream are put in my mind, and I can think about it and experience it after I wake up. It doesn’t feel like the dream is happening right then and right there. Will I be able when I have LD, to feel that this is happening right now and just kind of stop and live in the moment?

Sorry about my long posts

I know precisely how you feel, as most of my dreams occur this manner, except those which are exceptionally vivid or memorable (ie lucid dreams and nightmares).
You can stop and live in the moment, that’s what LD’s are all about and why they seem more ‘real’ than ND’s.

Thanks Snape! I’m glad to hear that. Makes me even more interested in lucid dreaming.

wow i just learned sooo much by reading this entire post! thanks soo much guys! so the dreams that Mikk is talking about where you don;t experience as it happens but is more of a vivid memory so you can replay it and relive it…is that a ND? or something else?

thanks soo much…wow discovering this forum has brought so much enlightment into my dream life… :content:

Yes, every normal dream is like that. You don’t feel really present while it happens and you just have memories of it when you wake up.

I just had my first LD! Still can’t believe it, it was so cool. Maybe it’s just beginners luck and take a long time for me to have another one but now I at least know a litlle better what it’s like and I know I will have more some day :content: It was this morning, I already woke up at least once but fell back to sleep.

So here’s what happened.

I’m in my house in a shower with two girls. I realise this must be a dream a become lucid. The first thing I do is quite obvious… I’m concerned what my RL body is doing in bed and is someone seeing what I’m doing in my dream. I rub my hands together and try spinning. My head gets dizzy from the spinning. When I look at my hands they don’t look normal, but I’m amazed at all the detail I can see. I walk out of the shower thinking will it end my LD or will I end up in a different dream. The next room looks just like in RL though. It’s dark and I try to turn on the lights. Nothing happens. Electrical equipment doesn’t work in a dream, I think to myself and go outside. It looks very real in there too. There is a woman sitting on a chair. It’s dark but she is shining her own light. I’m thinking I want to explore the dream world more. I want to find a lawnmover on the porch behind her, one that you can sit on and drive. But there is just a normal one. I can drive this one too in a dream, I’m thinking, and stand on it. The woman seems to realise I’m in my dream and I can do whatever I want. She smiles at me. The lawnmover is running beautifully. I visualize some kind of levers to it that I can use to turn. They appear. I’m driving down the road and remember reading here on ld4all about the dream skies. I look at mine and in the dream I believe it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. It’s early dawn or late dusk and in the horizon I can see beautiful swirling colors. I can almost feel shivers down my back. I get bored at driving with the lawnmover. It’s a dream, I can fly too, I’m thinking! I jump in the air and rise maybe 10 meters above the ground. I glide to a tree nearby, wave the branches with my hand and marvel at the detail on the tree. I continue my flight. There are cars running below me on the road. Then I lose my faith, I can’t fly! I drop to the ground, try again but cant get much height. I try to swim on the air, it seems to work but it’s slow. Then I feel the dreamworld fading, and wake up fully conscious with a big grin on my face.

That’s great Mikk! I’m so glad for you! Congrats! And you had a great first LD! It was rather long, beautiful and you managed to do plenty of things!

I don’t think that having a LD during the first two weeks is beginners luck. It seems to me a normal time if you’re really motivated, self-confident and practice techniques. The average time is about 3 weeks with DILD methods but I’ve seen lot of people who had their first LD’s in the 1st week and even some rare people on the 1st night they tried. And I think that once you’ve had one LD, you know what it is and you know that’s possible hence it’s easier then. So good luck and keep it up!

:boogie: :woot: Congratulations Mikko on your first LD! :boogie: :woot:
ONNEKSI OLKOON

And no  it wasn’t just begginer’s luck! You got lucid by your own merit and intention, and you had a really nice dream!

Hey, why don’t you start a Dream Journal?

Thank you both! :colgate:
I’m so glad I found this site and learned about lucid dreaming :content:

You mean like a dream journal in here Bruno? Maybe I could do that… I think I’m going to have to write my paper version and work a little bit more on my DR first though. :peek:

You did it so fast im jelaous :grrr: I only had 2 stupid LD that last 5 seconds
