Newbie with big dreams (pun intended)!

Hi all! Thought I would introduce myself quickly and see if this is a friendly place (I assume it is, of course)! I am not entirely new to LD, but last time was back in my teens, back in the late bronze age or something like that, so for all intents and purposes, I am starting from scratch. What brought me here was… well, you see… hmm… this sounds crazy every way I try to write it.

I am into roleplaying games, you know, dice and figurines and stuff. It is very much about collective storytelling, and I coach local youngsters trying to get into the hobby. A mom of two teen girls wanted to borrow a few books and I thought it was to see if “RPGs” was for her. But no, she is an avid lucid dreamer and had gleened some things from her daughters’ hobby and started using it to structure lucid dreams more. And what she told me was pretty fascinating, so I thought I would try to get back into it, maybe develop some new and unusual methods with her and see where it took me. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I am (re-)starting my journey into the dreamlands, and hope to find some good conversations on what I discover. I am open to anything right now, so if you have some ideas for me, let me know!

Hope to talk to you soon!

Hello! Welcome there!
Well, I’ll be honest, it’s not easy to try to invent new methods and cover new ground, because most techniques have already been discovered.
But there are still a lot of interesting things to think about.
Do you enjoy daydreaming? For me, it’s closely related to lucid dreaming, yet often overlooked.

Thank you, glad to be here! Someone famous once said that everything worth inventing had already been invented. That was around the year 1900, before flight, cell phones and internet  But yes, there is a lot out there, and I know I will retread some of the paths, but as long as I am on a journey, I am okay with that!

And yes, I do daydream a lot, though I never thought of it in that way. I will definitely remember that…

That’s an interesting approach, trying to combine role playing with lucid dreaming and harnessing synergies. I think there are a couple of lucid dreamers who do role play. It’s somewhat similar after all, diving into fictional worlds as deep as possible. Especially if you care more about the storytelling element and less about the mechanics or role of the particular game you are playing.

Please let us know anything you discover or feel free to ask for support and opinions when you’re unsure about something.

We used to have a sort of role playing game on the forums, too. Several years ago it was all the rage. To be honest, most people enjoyed the so called Real Game over the Role Play, I.e. the rule based part of the game rather than the free, open fantasy character interactions. You can find it in the Wolfgame subsection of the forums. It’s basically Werewolf or Mafia or Salem or what have you.

Welcome to LD4all

Thank you! And yes I do find the crossover interesting, although I am (still) most solidly rooted on the roleplaying side. I have been invited to a social thing that the lucid dreamer attends regularly, what they call, no kidding, their “dream team” (I want to be that good at finding names for my friend circles). Hopefully there will be some discussion on the concept, although the details are still a mystery to me. But I have their full support in making a little research project out of it, and hope to get input from, and give ideas to, other lucid dreamers. Maybe a free book on it or something, still not clear on that. As they say, watch this space
