Newcomer who has just revived interest in lucid dreaming

Hello. I have had only 1 truly lucid dream in my life, and it lasted about a second, but I have had a few FLDs. I temporarily stopped trying to LD after I realized I wasn’t getting enough sleep, but now that I feel better about my sleep schedule I’m ready to begin learning to Lucid dream!

What most people agree on is that the dream journal is the most valuable tool. But whether you use one or not the key is to draw out the dreams into conscious thought so you can clearly remember them in full while conscious, and have conscious experience of the dream world. But of course having a record you can search through is very useful, to notice the patterns like what happens often and what never happens, and what effect trying different things has on your dreams, especially if you don’t have a perfect memory of every single dream you ever had!

And remember that everybody is different, so the advice of others may or may not be helpful to you. And unless you are lucky it’s probably going to take some time.

I’m lucky to remember my dreams a lot, unfortunately I forget to do RCs and that is my main issue

It is recommended to become obsessed with lucid dreams, and you should be thinking about it all day long. If it never occurs to you at all that the reality you are experiencing may be a dream then when you become consciously aware in a dream you will be unlikely to have this thought, unless you encounter something that makes no sense at all and makes you question reality.

If you keep forgetting then you may need reminders throughout the day. Train yourself to question reality by habit every time you see certain things. Maybe you could put a note in your pocket, tie a knot in a handkerchief or whatever. When you have experience of a lot of dreams you may notice certain recurring things which often happen, and these “dream signs” are the perfect thing to use as your reminder to question reality. Just remember the idea that “this is too real to be a dream” is not an acceptable thought!

How many dreams do you have written down in your journal?
If your answer is, “None, I just remember them anyway,” — that’s the main problem right there.

You shouldn’t get too obsessed with it. Pushing it too hard not only hurts your progress but also creates anxiety when you don’t get the results you expect. It’s like going to the gym — just do not more than necessary and not less, and the results will come.

That’s really good! Then you just need to stick with the homework — reality checks. Pick a few techniques and rotate them, one per day. Rotate your triggers too; don’t do everything at once and don’t repeat the same one every time. For me, a change of location is the most important trigger — if the environment changes, I immediately do one of the planned reality checks.
